'rnnvnnmannm Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb: 8, 1921.
To all whom it may concern:
A the fitted type.
Heretofore fitted bags have been open to a number of serious objections, overcoming in great part the alleged convenience afforded.
hief among the objections are that the articles comprising the fittings are found to be relatively inaccessible after the bag is packed and can only be removed for use after the bag has been partially or wholly unpacked, or by disarranging and upsetting the other articles in the bag. Further, it is found that certain of the articles comprising the fittings, as hair brushes, are damaged by being squeezed between the bag and the articles packed therein, while certain other articles, which are liable to breaka e, are a menace to the clothing, etc., with w ich the bag may be packed.
. bly reduce the effective capacity of the prescut type of bag.
My invention has for its object to provide a bag fitted with any desired variety of toilet articles and so constructed that the toilet articles will be thoroughly protected from damage and readily available for use, at any time, without disturbing the contents of the bag and at the same time constructed in such a manner that the fittings will not appreciably diminish the capacity of the bag, nor affect the symmetry of its external appearance.
I will now proceed to describe my invention in detail in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which like symbols refer to similar parts in the various views and in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a traveling bag embodying my invention.
Fig. 2. is an end elevation of the bag partly in section.
a Fig. 3 is a partial end elevation of the bag partly in section.
. Fig. 4 is a partial end elevation of the bag,
partly in section, showing a modification.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a traveling Bag involving a modification of my inven- Fig. 6 is a perspective view from a different viewpoint of the bag shown in Fig. 5.
Flg. 7 is an end elevation, partly in sectron, of the bag shown in Fig. 5'. l
Referring to Figs. 1, 2 and 3, the body of the bag a is secured to the ordinary t pe of fragile 6, provided with a lock 0 and f ers In one side of the bag is formed a recess or compartment e. Loops f are secured to the back of the recess for the reception of brushes and various other toilet articles.
the cover is cut out to form flaps h, adapted to extend over the frame and inside the bag. The flaps are provided with eyelets z and slots j. Fasteners I: are secured within the bag at a point to engage eyelets 2', slots j being engaged by fasteners d. A tab Z, preferably attached to the cover g, is provided for opening the bag.
Referring to Fig. 4, a recess or compart ment formed in the side of the bag body at, similar to recess 6. A cover 0 is fastened along its upper edge to the body of the bag above the recess. and provided near its lower edge with eyelets p. Fasteners 1' are secured to the bag body to hold the cover in place.
Referring to Figs. 5, 6 and 7, the body of the bag s is secured to the ordinar type of frame If, provided with fastening evices u. In the side of the bag is formed the recess or compartment '1), similar to recesses e and m. A cover w is fastened along its lower edge to the body of the bag, below the recess, and is adapted to close the recess. Fasteners or, formed of light metal covered with leather and secured to the upper edge of the cover, are shaped to conform to and grip the frame it, of the bag, and hold the cover in lace.
n practice, when it is desired to'close the recess, the cover is brought up against the bag and, by means of the flaps h and fastenastenthen closed and the cover is drawn tightly against theside of the bag over the recess, due to the increase in the distance, from the point of attachment of the cover to the frame, when the bag is closed.
In the modification shown in Fig. 4, thecover is merely fastened down, the closing of the bag drawing ittight.
It will be obvious from the above description that the toilet articles are readily made accessible, by merely unfastening the cover, without in any way disturbing the contents of the bag proper.
It will also be obvious that instead of providing the recess or compartment with bolders for toilet articles, it may be arranged and adapted for the reception of any other articles. 7
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim and desire to protect by Let.- ters Patent is: a V i 1. A traveling bag comprising a body provided with an outwardly opening recess and a cover adapted to'close sald recess, one end of said cover being secured within the body so that said cover cannot be released without first opening the bag.
2. A traveling bag comprising a pair of pivotally connected frame members, a body connected to the frame members and provided with an outwardly opening recess, a cover for said recess, said cover being secured to the body along one edge and adapted to "extend over said recess and be secured between said frame members when the bag is closed.
3. A traveling bag comprising a pair of pivotally connected frame members, a body,
provided with an outwardly opening recess,
secured to said frame members, and a cover for said recess, said cover extending over one of said frame members and being secured to the interior of said body.
4. A -traveling bag comprising a. pair of pivotally connected frame members, a body provided with an outwardly opening recess and a cover, said cover being secured to the body below said recess and detachably secured to the inside of one of the frame members within the bag above said recess.
5. A traveling bag comprising a pair of hinged frame members, a body provided with an outwardly opening recess, a cover secured to the body below said recess, an extension forming a continuation of the cover arranged to extend over one frame member into the inside of said bag, to secure said cover over said recess, and a fastener for the extension on the inside of the ba and arranged to be retained in locking p081- tion when'the bag is opened.
6. A traveling bag having a body secured at its open end to hinged frame members, one side of the body having a depression therein closed to the interior of the bag and opening outwardly, a cover for said recess forming a continuation of the side of the body, and a securing member on the upper edge of the cover arranged to pass around one of the frame members and arranged to hold the cover in position when the bag is closed or open. v
In testimony of which invention I have hereunto set my hand at Philadelphia, Pa., on this 20th day of October, 1919.
