- following is a specification.

This invention relates to an apparel corset and more particularly to. that typeof corset garment in which in the front portions thereof adjacent the front steels there are employed tension straps soformed and placed in the garment as to produce a fiat teningeffect atthe waist line of the wearer, thus tending to cause the upper portions of the front steels to extend away from the body of the wearer and at the same time providing a support for those portions of the body ofthe wearer lying beneaththe garment and between the waist line and the groin. I. am aware that heretofore apparel corsets have been constructed in this manher as, for example, shown and described in Letters Patent No. 1,328,637 5, granted to me January 20, 1920. In this type ofgarment, however, particularly when the opposite sides of the tension straps are permanently connected in the garment, there is a tendency in the overlying body portion of the garment to wrinkle, due to the fact that the tension strap" is necessarily shorter thanthe overlying part of the garment, considered circumferentially,and obviously to avoid this wrinkling effect thetension strap in use must be extended or stretched to at least the equal lengthof the overlying parts of the body of the garment, The object of the present invention is to overcome this difficulty as wellas to provide a means in the corset garment of causing the lower edge of the tension strap to it into the groin of the body of the wearer and to cause a continued flattening effect from the waist line to the lower edge of the garment which, in view of the fact that the garmentis provided with a skirt, extends substantially from the waist line to the knee of the wearer, at the same time causing a flattening effect at the thigh of the wearerf In order to ac complish thisresult, I employ a hose supporter strap connected to the body of the garment above the loweredge of the tension strap and extending downwardly to approximately the loweredge of the garment where a hose supporter is connected thereto as well as to the adjacent lower edge of the Specification of-Letters Patent. scribed. 1 am furthermore aware that heretofore various forms of hose supporter straps have beenemployed in apparel corsets, but as faras the same have come to my knowledge, in no instance has a hose supporter strap been used to accomplish the purposes to which I have hereinbefore re ferred. y

Referring to thedrawing, it will be seen thatin carrying out th s invention the corset garment as 1s customary comprises a body member 10 which at the front or forward .edge fitted with steels 11 having clasps 12 by which the steels may be connected, and also the body of the garmentiis preferably provided with a d'epending skirt indicated at 13 and extending continuously to the front edge of the corset.

In this corset I employa tension stra J 14: of elastic'material. This,.as illustrate is preferably triangular in outline and is secured in the garment with the base or longer side thereof attached to the front steel section adjacent the front steels along a line of stitching indicated at15. The opposite edge of the tension strap is, asillustrated, secured to the body of the garment distant from the front steels along a line of stitching. indicated at 16, which preferably also includes the stitching or a part thereof for inclosing a stay or corset stiffener, while the upper and lower edges of the tension strap are free from attachment to the body of the garment. It will be obvious, however, that the tension strap may ,be con.- nected to the body of thegarment in any suitable manner without departing from the nature and spirit of this invention. Furthermore, the function of this tension strap placed as hereinbefore described is,

In this invention I also employ a hose supporter strap 17-. As illustrated, this depending hose supporter strap is connected to the body of the garment along a line of stitching indicated at 18 which is appreciably above the lower end of the tension strapll'so that the upper end of the hose supporterstrap underlies the lower edge of thetension strap and assumes a position be tween the same and the corresponding por- I tions of the body of the garment, with this upper edge of the hose supporter strap extending between the attached edges of the I tension strap. The hose supporter strap is also connected to the body of the garment along the edge thereof distant from the front steels as indicated at the line of stitching 19 which is preferably a continuation of the line of stitching 16, while the opposite 5 edge QO of the hose supporter strap is en- 7 A extension'of the hose supporter strap indicated at 22 which terminates at substantially the-lower edge of the skirt. I also employ a hose'supporter indicated at 23 with the upper end thereof divided as indicated at 24 and 25, with the former division connected to the I lower edge of the'skirt and the latter to the end of the extension 22 of the depending hose supporter strap. In the front of the garment I I may'also provide a hose supporter 26, and as illustrated the upper edge of the garment may be fitted with an insert of yielding mafromterial as indicated at 27 placed therein ad jacent the upper end of the front steel and extending a predetermined distance there- In the use of the garment as hereinbefore deseribed and as will now be apparent, the tension strap 14 extending from a point above the waist line to the lower edge of the I I body of the garment will overlie the waist line at the front thereof and extend to the groin'section of the wearer. In so dolng, whe'nthe tension is applied thereto, the efduce a flattening thereof at the same time causing {the upper'edges of the corset steels to extend away from the body of the wearer and to also provide a support for the body or; those portions thereof underlying the strap and extending from the waist to the groin. If, however, the tension applied to the strap is notsuflicient to extend the same so that its length will be at least equal to the length of the overlying parts of the body of the garment there will be a wrinkling effect in this overlying portion of the corset body. This effect is overcome by the tension applied by the hose supporters to the hose supporting strap pulling this portion of the body of the garment downwardly to remove any wrinkles that there may be made therein, and also to cause the lower end of the tension strap to lit into the groin of the wearer so that a continuation of the flatten ing effect at the waist line is produced which extends from the waist line to the lower edge of the garment. This obviously also has the elfect of producing a desired contour to the entire thigh of the wearer ol' the garment, and more particularly to the front portion of the thigh where the flatten ing effect is esgecially produced. iiurthermore in some instances the desired flatten ing effect may he obtained by the onniloy ment of the hose sumiortor strap ii". as here lll shown and (itSCl'lbhtL without the use of the tension strap. That is to say, in instances where the flattening effect is not desired at the waist line and where the snpportling cfiect is not necessary the hose supporter strap attached as hercinbefore described may be employed without the tension strap for controlling the configuration given the thigh of the wearer by producing the desired flattening effect in the front portion thereof.

I claim as my invention:

1. In an apparel corset and at each side of the front steels thereof, an elastic tension strap secured at one edge adjacent the front steels and at the opposite edge to the body of the garment distant from the front steels to produce a flattening effect at the waist line andto act as a support for the underlying parts of the body of the wearer between the waist line and the groin, and tension devices secured to the body of the garment at approximately the lower edge of the tension strap and extending downwardly to produce a continued flattening elfect from the waist line to the lower edge of the body of the garment.

2. In an apparel corset and at each side of the front steels thereof, an elastic tension strap secured at one edge adjacentthe front steels and at the opposite edge to the body of the garment distant from the front steels to produce a flattening effect at the waist line 1 c and to act as a support for the underlying parts of the body of the wearer between the waist line and the groin, and a tension device secured to the body of the garment adjacent the lower edge of the tension strap and extending downwardly therefrom to cause a lower edge of the tension strap to fit into the groin of the wearer, thereby providing an additional support therefor.

3. In an apparel corset and at each side of illl ltltl the front steels thereof, an elastic tension strap secured at one edge adjacent the front steels and at the opposite edge to the body of the garment distant from the front steels to produce a flattening effect at the waist line and to act as a support for the underlying parts of the body of the wearer between fect from the waist line to the bottom edge of the garment.

4. In an apparel corset and at each side of the front steels thereof, a tapering elastic tension strap secured along its longest edge to the corset adjacent the front steel section thereof and at its opposite edge along a line distant from the front section to produce a flattening effect at the waistline,causing the upper end of the corset steel to be forced away from the body of thewearer and providing a supportfor the underlying parts of the body of the wearer between the waist line and the groin, a hose supporter strap secured to the body of the garment along a line slightly above the lower edge of the tension strap, and a hose supporter connected to the lower end of the hose supporter strap and the lower edge of the arment whereby the tensionapplied by tiehose supporter strap causes the lower edge ofithe tension strap to extend into the groin of the wearer and provides a continued smooth flattening effect from the waist line to the lower edge of the garment.

5. In an apparel corset and at each side of the front steels thereof, a ta pering elastic tension strap secured alon its longest edge to the corset adjacent the front steel section thereof and at its opposite edge along a line distant from the front section to produce a flattening effect at the waist line, causing the upper end of the corset steel to be forced'away from the body of the wearer and providing a support for the underlying parts of the body of the wearer betweenthe waist line and the groin, a hose supporter strap secured along its upper edge to the bodyof the garment along a line slightly above the lower edge of the tension strap and also for a predetermined distance along its edge distant from the front steels, with the edge adjacent the front steel free from attachment to the garment, and a hose supporter attached to the lower edge of the corset and also to the lower ed e of the hose supporter strap whereby tension applied to the hose supporter strap causes the lower edge of the tension strap to fit into the groin of the wearer andv also produces a continued smooth flattening effect from the waist line to the lower edge of the garment.
