A further object is to provide a handle that will hold the tool fast in hot, cold, wet or dry weather and regardless of the contraction or expansion of the handle helve. and other objects in view theinvention consists in the combination and arrangement 01' parts to be hereinafter fully described in this specification, pointed out in the appended claim and illustrated in the accomdii'awing which forms a part of the specification and in which- Fi ure 1 is a side elevation, partly in section, of my tool handle illustrating itsapplication.
Fig. 2 is an inverted perspective view of the wedge member employed.
Fig. 8 isa top plan view of Fig. 1.
Like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout.
The reference numeral 1 denotes the tool, in this case an ax, towhich my improved handle may be applied. The handle comprises the helve 2 termed with a central vertical socket 3 adapted to receive the retaining screw 4 which passes through an opening 5 formed in the oval shaped retaining plate 6 which plate is formed along the invented certain new and use With the foregoing Specification of Letters Patent.
edge of its under side with the cuneiform beads 7, 8 which are spaced, apart and which are of the general shape of the end of the helve 2 and designed tool 1 as best shown. in Fig. 1..
' hen the helve is driven opening in the too]. in the usual manner the retaining plate is applied. The beads 7, 8 are driven between the tool and helve and the plate retained in position by the screw 4.. belve will only make a closer fit of the same with the tool; contraction of the helve is taken care of by forcing screw 4 further into the helve and so driving the beads 7, 8 into the space iormed between the tool and. helve and through the said members.
What is claimed is:-- y
Ina tool handle, a helve formed with a central longitudinal. socket, an oval apertured retaining plate of greater breadth than the end of said helve and adapted for overlapping disposition thereupon cuneiform beads formedmarginally of said retaining plate, said beads being spaced apart with. their open ends adjacent each other, said beads beingdesigned to encompass said helve and to wedge in between the same and the tool, and a screw adapted for insertion in the apertured portion of said retaining plate and into the socket oi? said helve.
