R. C. FLAGG,
BAG HOLDER AND WEIGHER. APPLICATION FILED MAYI, I920.
, 1,359,586. Patented Nov. 23, 1920.
Roland 8.1 2099- UNlTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
C. FLAGG, OF EAST ACTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
BAG HOLDER AND WEIGHER.
Application filed May 1,
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, ROLAND CQFLAGG, a citizen of the United States, residing at East Acton, in the county of Middlesex, State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bag Holders and Weighers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful imsrovements in bag holders and weighers. ne object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved stand on which a bag, to be filled, can be properly and evenly supported.
Another object is to provide a novel and improved stand which not only supports the bag and contents, but weighs the bag and contents, thus obviating the necessity of removing the bag and contents from the stand to weigh the same.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
In the drawing: 7
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a bag holder and weigher made in accordance with the invention,
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same, the upright of the stand being partly broken away.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing, 10 represents a base, which may be formed from wood, metal, or other suitable material, and mounted on the base, at one side thereof, is an upright 11. The upper end of the upright is bent over to lie over the base, and this end is formed with a hook 12 on which the weighing scales 13 are, suspended.
A split ring 14 is provided for engagement in the mouth of the bag 15, one end of the ring carrying a bolt 16 which extends through a longitudinal slot 17, formed in Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 23, 1920.
1920." Serial No. 878,099.
' the other end of the ring, a winged nut being engaged on the bolt for clamping the ends of the ring together. By this construction the ring is readily capable of adjustment to fit the mouths of bagsof different sizes. Secured to one end of the ring, and extending toward the upright 11, is an arm 18, the other end of said arm being formed with a horizontal eye 19, engaged loosely around the upright and arranged to slide vertically thereon, as the bag and ring moves upwardly and downwardly, with the scales. The ring 14 is also provided with a plurality of hooks 20 for penetration through the mouth of the bag whereby the bag will be positively held suspended on the ring.
By this construction, the usual bag holding stand, where the bag is supported while being filled, and then must be removed and weighed, is done away with, the supporting of the bag while being filled, and at the same time weighing the contents, being accomplished in one operation.
The arm 18 holds the ring in a horizontal position so that the bag will hang or depend I vertically, the eye of the arm sliding easily up and down on the upright 11, as the bag becomes light or heavy.
What is claimed is:
A bag holding and weighing device comprising a base, an upright mounted on the base and having its upper end extended to overlie the base and being provided with a hook, a bag mouth engaging ring having hooks, said ring being split and having means for adjusting the ends thereof, a weighing means on the hook of the upright and engaged with the ring, and a holding arm carried by the ring and slidably engaged with the upright.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ROLAND C. FLAGG.
Witnesses:
I HORACE F. TUTTLE,
LENA A. FLAGG.
