locks at present constructed, and adapted for efiective use on doors, safes or other places where locks are needed.
It is also an object of this invention to produce a lock having a plurality of simultaneously actuated bolts working in conjunction with a straddle yoke and partly inclosed keeper. Y
An additional object isto produce a lock having a simple and efficient roll-back and tumbler catch combination employed to actuate the several bolts.
With the above principal objects an othersin view, the invention has relation to the combination and arrangement of simplified lock parts, several variations in design and construction of which appear in the appended claims defining the invention, and
one embodiment of which is described in the 1 following specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 illustrates the lock casmg and keeper parts insection to disclose the interior working mechanism of the lock.
Fig. 2 discloses a sectional view as ap proximately taken .on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 shows a cross-sectional view taken on the line33 of Fig. 1. v
A look constructed in accordance with the plans of this invention includes a casing having an integral straddle yoke adapted to fit over and partly inclose a keeper. A plu rality of bolts are simultaneously thrust through the straddle yoke and keeper to ef- A feet a positive lockedposition. A bolt frame carries the several bolts, and likewise carries a tumbler catch pivoted thereto. A roll-' back is associated with the tumbler catch to operate the lock. Other novel features of construction and advantages of this look will appear in the following detail specification.
In presenting a more comprehensible and detailed disclosure of my invention, there is Specification of Letters I at'ent. Patented Nov, 16,1920 Application filed February 24, 1920. Serial No. 360,772. 7
' move and retract during the locking and I The yoke 8 is T locking operation thereof. formed as a single-piece element integral with the casing 6 by making the web '8, which forms the straddle yoke, in spaced and parallel relation to the front edge of the lock casing. The front edge of the lock casing 6 is likewise provided with bores for the reception of bolts, which allows the bolts to actuate in the lock casing and move for- I wardly therefrom within the'bore 9 of the straddle yoke,
, The keeper is made with angle plates 10 to anchor itto the door casing, and this keeper has an integral web 11 projecting from the face of the outer angle plate and registering within the opening of the straddle yoke,-
The web 11 is provided with bores 12 equal in number to and concentric with the bores of the straddle yoke and the lock casing all I of which are brought into alinement when the lock casing is moved into registry with the web. v
A bolt frame 14 has integral lugs 15 slidably confined within the guides 7 so that the frame may be moved vloack'and forth within I the lock casing and confined in proper'working relation through the agency of the guides supporting and confining the lugs.
A numberof bolts 16 are fixed to the bolt frame and confined in the bores in the end wall of the casing 6. The bolt frame 14 has an "arm 17 extending back from the frame and approximately parallel with the axis of the bolts 16. It is seen how longitudinal movement impressed against the arm 17 will likewise move the bolts 16 outwardly and inwardly relative to the end wall of the I lockv casing 7 A'tumbler catch 19 is placed alongside the arm 17 and pivoted on the outer end thereof on. a pin 20 passed through both the tumbler catch and the arm. This construction joins the tumbler catch 19v and arm 17 together" but permits one end of the tumbler catch to move up and down on the pivot pin 20 relatively to the arm. The'tumbler catch is providedv with a roll-back-notch 21 anda L the wall of the casing in line with the tumbler catch 19 and is engageable by the lock notch 22 when the tumbler catch is lifted and driven forward to effect a locked posi: tion. One or more springs 24 are fixed to the casing and press downwardly on the upper face of the tumbler cat-ch to restrain it in downwardly limited position. The lock pin 23 is indirect line with the end of the tumbler catch and prevents accidental movement of the lock parts by acting as a stop against the tumbler catch.
A roll-back cylinder 26 is pivotally mounted on the casing and has an upstanding finger 27 lying within the roll back notch 21. The roll-back cylinder 26 is connected in any suitable manner with the cylinder lock 28 which is mortised within the door upon which the lock is installed. The
cylinder lock 28 may be made in any ap-- proved design in accordance with recognized lock construction. The cylinder lock 28 has connection with the roll-back cylinder 26 in such a manner that a key when inserted into the lock cylinder. will establish a fixed connection between the cylinder 28 and the rollback 26 in order that said roll-back may be rotated in either direction. A knurled knob 5 is -'rotatably carried in the wall of the casing 6 and connects with the roll-back 26. The knob 5 may be ofany approved construction and is used for opening and closing the lock and door from the inside of the compartment secured by the lock.
In the operation of the lock, a key is inserted in the cylinder lock 28 in the usual manner, and if the proper key is used there is established a joined relation between the roll-back cylinder26 and the key, which enables the owner of the key to rotate the roll-back 26, thereby swinging the finger 27 upwardly against the lower edge of the tumbler catch to lift into ivotal motion about the pin 20. After the 'nger 27 has reached an upright position it .moves into engagement against the vertical face of the notch 21, whereupon the finger impresses a forward motionagainst the tumbler catch which is transmitted to the arm 17 to move the bolts 16 forwardly into the bores 12 of the keeper and bores 9 of the straddle yoke. This bolt action thus anchors the lock casing 6 to the keeper 10 by establishing an overlapping and hooked kee the front end of the catch engagementbetween the straddle yoke and the keeper. Simultaneously with the above described action, the lock tumbler 19 drops into engagement with the lock pin 23 by virtue of the lock notch 22 becoming hooked over the pin 23, whereupon the bolts 16 are anchored in secured relation with the keeper and incapable of being forced therefrom.
The device isunlocked by inserting the key in the cylinder lock to establish a connected relation with the roll-back 26, whereupon the tumbler catch 19 is lifted out of engagement with the lock pin 23, which permits the finger 27 to retract the bolts 16 within the lock casing, thus disengaging the er to permit the door to be opened. aving thus described my invention, I desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A look, comprising a casing having guides provided in the form of a track within the casing, a frame slidably retained in the track, -bolts carried by the frame, a tumbler catch pivoted on. the frame, said tumbler catch provided with a roll-back notch and a lock notch, a lock pin anchored to the casing in line with the tumbler catch to hold the tumbler catch and connecting bolts in fixed position, and a pair of oppositely turned springs fixed at one end of the casing, and engaging said tumbler catch at the other end so as to maintain said catch into engagement with said pin.
2. A look comprising a casing having a number of bores made in the end wall therenecting the bolts, a guide to hold the frame in correct operating position, an arm attached to the frame, a'tumbler catch pivoted on the arm andhavin'g notches formed therein, a lok pin anchored to the wall of the casing line with the tumbler catch to prevent accidental movement of the lock parts, a roll-back cylinder pivoted on the lock casing adjacent thetumbler catch, a finger fixed to the roll-back cylinder and confined in the notch of the tumbler catch to lift said catch above the aforesaid lock pin to-manipulate the bolt to retracted and'projected position, and a pair of oppositely turned springs fixed at one end to the casing, and engaging'said tumbler catch at the other end so as to maintain said catch into engagement with said pin.
