Be it known that I, CHARME MOHME, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Brawley, Imperial county, California, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Poison-Bottles, of which the following is a specication.
rhe object of this invention is to provide an improved construction for bottles or containers adapted to contain poison and so made and arranged as to limit the probability of accidental and uninformed use of the contents thereof, or the use .thereof by children or feeble-minded persons.
My invention consists in the construction, Varrangement Aand combination of elements hereinafter set forth, pointed out in the claims and illustrated by the accompanying,- drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevationof a complete container embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is a vertical section on one diameter ofthe same. Fig. 3 is a bottom view of the same, Fig. 4 is a view of a pull-key employed to operate devices on the container.
In the construction of the device as shown the numeral 10 designates a container or bottle, preferably made of glass. of generally cylindrical form throughout its major portion and formed with an integral contracted neck portion 11 and an integral stopper-simulating portion 12 at the apex of the neck portion. The bottom of the container preferably is relatively thick and heavy and is formed with a slide-seat diametrically arranged and opening' through the side thereof. The bottom also is formed with a central opening adapted to be closed by a stopper 13. of suitable material such as cork, and the upper surface of said bottom inclines from all sides toward said opening. The bottom of the container also is formed with a radial lgroove 14. having` an inclined upper wall. and a lug 15 is formed on the wall of said container and closes the outer end of said radial groove. A closing plate 16 is slidingly mounted in the seat in the bottom of the container and the outer end of said plate is formed with a flange 17 adapted to be engaged by a hand of the user for manipulation of the plate relative to the slide seat. A leaf-spring latch 18 is mounted on one face of the plate 16 and is connected at one end by a rivet 19 to the central portion of said plate. The latch 18 is of a length providing' that when the plate 16 is fully seated the outer end thereof will enter the groove 14 and abut the lug 15 and prevent accidental removal of the latch and plate from the slide seat. The spring latch 18 is confined within a desirable range of movement by a pin 20 li'Xed at one end in the outer end portion of thelatch and extending loc-sely through a hole in the plate 16 adjacent the flange 17, said hole being countersunk and the head of the pin being shaped to enter, but not pull through, said hole. An expansive coil spring 21 is mounted on the pin 20 between the plate 16 and latch 18 and it is the function of said spring to separate the outer end of the latch from the plate and normally hold said latch within the `@groove 14 and in contact with the lug 15. Registering slots 22, 23 are formed in the plate 16 and latch 18 respectively and a pull-key 24. having a lug 25 on one end, may be passed through the slots and engage the inner face ofthe latch for the purpose of contracting the latch on the plate by manual operation to free said latch from the lug 15 and permit it and the plate to be withdrawn from the slide seat.
In practical use, the contents of the container are held and protected from accidental use by the arrangement of parts in the positions shown. When it is desired to remove contents from the container, said container is inverted. the key 24 is passed through the slots 22. 23 manually and the lug '25 is engaged with the latch and the .latch is contracted on the plate and removed with said` plate from the slide seat. This operation uncovers the stopper 13, and said stopper may then be withdrawn and contents be poured from the container manuratentea oct. 1e, ieee.

3. ln closing means for a poison bottle, a plate adapted to be mounted across the vent of said `bottle, a leaf spring latch mounted thereon and normally separated at one end therefrom, said plate and latch beingformed with registering openings, and a hooked key adapted to be passed through said openings and engage said latch, whereby said latch may be retracted toward said plate.
4. A poison bottle or container formed with a .discharge portfand a slide-seat, and a groove in adjacent relation, a plate slidably mounted in said seat and extending across said port and groove, a latch mounted von said plate and spring-held in separation therefrom Vand adapted to enter said groove and engage said container, said plate and latch being formed with registering openings, and a key adapted tobe passed through said registering openings and engage said latch, whereby the latch may be contracted toward the plate and the latch and plate be removed Jfrom and Without injuryto the container.
