Description
R. CAMELL, L. COCHET AND J. GRITTE. CATALYTIC HEATING APPARATUS.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 13. l9l9.
Patented Sept. 28,1920.
v 0 I a) UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RAMON CAMELL, or RHONE, AND LAURENT COCHET AND JOSEPH GRITTE, OF LYON,
FRANCE, ASSIGNORS TO SOCIETE LYONNAISE DES RECHAUDS CATALYI'IQUES CAMELL, COCHE'L-GIWTTE & CIE. (SOCIETE EN COMMANDITE), 0F CALURE, RHONE,
FRANCE.
7 '0 all whom it may concern.
Be itknown that we, RAMoN CAMELL, a citizen of the French Republic, LAURENT Cocnn'r, a citizen of the French Republic, and JosErH GRITTE, a subject o flthe King of Belgium, of St. Rambert lIle Barbe, Rhone, France, 93 Boulevard des Belges, Lyon, France, and 93 Rue de la Pyramid,
France, respectivel have invented Lyon, certain new and useful mprovements 1n Catalytic Heating Apparatus, of which the following is a specification This invention relates to: catalytic heating apparatus-requiring preliminary heating of the catalytic mass to start its action, and the purpose of the invention is to provide simple and efficient means for-such prelimi-,
othis end we place in or on the said mass a pellet of spongy platinum, andprovide means for introducing a fluid combustible to-this pellet, whereby the temperature of the latter is rapidly raised, and the heat radiated by the pellet to the adjacent or surrounding catalytic mass quickl raises this mass to the temperature required for the normal working of the apparatus. The. fuel used for the purpose described may be a liquid, vapor or gas, for example liquid or vaporized alcohol or hydrocarbon, or
illuminating gas, pure or mixed with air, andahe same may be introduced by pressure, suction, capillarity or other convenlent means. I
.- The invention is illustratedin the accom-, panying drawing, which is a vertical section of a catalytic heater provided with one. form of'the improved preliminary heating device,
In the drawing a designates the pellet of spongy platinum, c a layerof catalytic ma- Smecifleation of Letters Patent CATALYTIC HEATING APPARATUS.
terial, d the receptacle containing the latter, and b a boss formed in the cover of this receptacle or container, the )ellet being placed under this boss, which allows easy'av cess of air to the pellet. Below the container (i there is a chamber 6 in the form of an inverted truncated cone. At the bottom of this chamberc is placed a layer of cotton or other absorbent material 7', and a tube g having a screw stopper it enables alcohol or the like to be pouredinto the chamber 0, to saturate the absorbent material f. An asbestos the surrounding catalytlc mass 0, as required for starting the heater.
What we clalm as our invention and desire to secure by Letters 'Patent of the United States is In catalytic heating apparatus, the combi- Patented Sept. 28 1920. Application tiled June 13, 1919. Serial No: 304,039. (i i wick i one rigid holder 7' extends from the k -way impinges onthe pellet a, and'quickly 'raises'the latter to temperature which heats nation of a container for a catalytic mass, a
pellet of spongy platinum in this container,
a chamber below said container, means for.
introducing liquid fuel into said chamber, and means for supporting a wick'extending from the interior of said chamber to the pellet in'said container. i
