APPLICATION FILED JAN. 7, 1919.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES W. MOSLEY, 0F HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA.
MILK-BOTTLE COVER.
Application filed January 7, 1919.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES W. MOSLEY, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Hollywood, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Milk-Bottle Covers, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the invention is to provide a cover for use in conjunction with the usual form of milk bottles and the like, so that the cover may be easily removed and replaced and at the same time form an effective closure for the bottle, thus preventing leakage of its contents or pollution of the same.
()ne of the features of the invention resides in the provision of means by which it is readily attached to or detached from the bottle, and another feature resides in the simplicity of the device and its cheapness of manufacture.
As shown and described, a specific em bodiment of the invention is adhered to, but to this embodiment it is not to be restricted. The right is reserved to make such changes or alterations as actual practical application may suggest, in so far as such changes oralterations are compatible in spirit with the annexed claim.
In the accompanying drawings Figure l is a view showing the practical application of the'invention, the usual form of milk bottle being shown in section and the invention attached thereto but shown in edge elevation.
Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1 showing the manner of removing the improved cover from the bottle.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the cover. FFig. 4 is a section on the line 4-4.- of
The improved cover, as shown, is for service with a bottle 1 which is the usual style of milk bottle and formed at its mouth with a marginal bead 2. The improved cover comprises a disk 3 designed to sit in the mouth of the bottle upon the ledge or shoulder4. Attached to this disk, there is a resilient strip 5 which is secured to the disk by means of a rivet 6 the latter passing Specification of Letters Patent.

through the strip intermediate its ends and through the disk at the center of the lat ter. The strip 5 is thus disposed diametrically across the disk 3 being formed adjacent the periphery of the cover with the curved portions 7 which embrace the head 2 the stock of the strip 5 beyond these curved portions 7 is formed with return bends S terminating in tongues 9.
The strip 5 with the terminal bent portions 7 serves to retain the disk 3 in the mouth of the bottle and in close and firm engagement with the shoulder 4. When it is desired to remove the cover, the forefinger may be placed on the latter just above the rivet 6 and the thumb and second finger made to engage the tongues 9 on the under face, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2 of the drawings. Pressure downward by the forefinger and upward pressure by the thumb and second finger, then serves to separate the curved portions 7 so that they may be released from the bead 2 and the cover thereafter easily removed.
The cover may be replaced on the bottle simply by pressing it down upon the latter, the curved portions 7 opening to permit them passing over and engaging the bead 2.
From the foregoing description and the accompanying drawings, it is believed that a clear enough understanding of the invention is to be had to render further description unnecessary.
The invention having been described, what is claimed as new and useful is:
A new article of manufacture comprising a disk for placement in the mouth of a milk bottle,-and a resilient strip secured to the disk at the center of the latter, the strip being formed with curved portions for embracing the head at the mouth of the bottle and being further formed with return bends adjacent the curved portions, the return bends terminating in lips for engagement.
by the fingers, whereby the curved portions may be spread to effect their disengagement from the bead for the useful purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature. 100
CHARLES W. MOSLEY.
