JOHN E. EVILSIZOR AND CARL FOLLRATH, OF SPRINGFIELD, OHIO.
ORNAMENT-SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented June 22, 1920.
Application filed June 2, 1919. Serial No. 301,267.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHN E. Evrnsrzon and CARL FoLLRA'rH, citizens of the United States of America, residing at Springfield, in the county of Clark and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Ornament-Supports, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to ornamentations and comprehends the provision'of a device primarily intended as a substitute for cedar trees, designed for the purpose of hanging ornaments therefrom.
The characteristic of the invention resides in the provision of a device of the above mentioned character having a substantially bell shaped outline and covered with material to add to the ornamentality of thesame, the invention being constructed to be collapsed and thus occupy a minmium of space when not in use.
The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detailed description is taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawing forming part of this specification, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views and wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device forming the SLlbJGCt matter of our invention.
Fig. 2 is a plan view showing the same in collapsed condition.
The device forming the subject matter 0 our invention essentially consists of a plurality of annuli arranged in superimposed relation, and successively increasing in diameter from the uppermost to the lowermost annulus as shown. The annuli may be constructed from any suitable material, preferably wire, and covered with colored material such as paper, cloth or the like,to add to the ornamentality of the device as a whole. The annuli are connected with a plurality of flexible elements 11 which are arranged to give the device a configuration similar to that of a bell. The flexible element 11 may be of any suitable materialand of the same color or of a difi'erent color from the material which covers the annuli. All of the flexible elements 11 have their corresponding upper extremities brought together and secured to the eye 12 of a member utilizedto suspend the device from a suitable support. The member of which the eye 12 forms a part terminates at one end to provide a hook 13. It is to be understood that any number of annuli may be employed to Vary the size'of the device. Suspended from each annulus is a plurality of small rings 14 upon which ornaments of any suitable character may be supported. As above stated, the device is intended as a substitute for cedar trees and can be used without making as much dirt as the tree, and by reason of the flexible connections between the annuli, the device may be collapsed in the manner shown in Fig. 2 to minimize space when its use is not desired. Consequently the device can be packed in a suit able box and kept from year to year.
While we have shown and described what we consider the preferred embodiment of increasing in diameter from the uppermost to the lowermost ring, an ornamental covermg for each ring, flexible elements connecting all of said rings at the peripheries thereof, and supporting the rings in spaced relation for permitting the device to collapse with the rings one within the'other, said flexible supporting elements being of the same material as the covering for said rings, a circumferential series of eyes depending from each ring, a supporting hook having a terminal, and all of said flexible elements having their upper extremities brought together at a point centrally of the uppermost ring, and secured in said terminal as described.
In testimony whereof we afiix our signatures.
JOHN E. EVILSIZOR.
CARL FOLLRATH.
