CHILDS ROCKER.

Application filed December 17, 1919. Serial No. 345,579.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN A. EBERLE, a citizen of the United States of America, a resident of the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Childrens Rockers, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
My invention relates to a cl1ilds 1'ocker,-
and has for one of its objects the production of a rocker which is of simple construction and can be easily and cheaply manufactured,
and because its frame-work is constructed of metal will have greater durability than wooden rockers previously in use.
Another object is to provide a collapsible childs rocker, which may be folded into compact form when not in use and for shipment.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention comprises the novel con struction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown the preferred embodiment of the invention. However, it is to be understood that the invention comprehends changes, variations and modifications which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.

In the drawings 1 designates the side frames, the lower portions of which are arcuate to form rockers 2, said frames being bent inwardly above the rockers to form upstanding seat supporting members 1*. A U-shaped base 3, fastened in any suitable manner to the seat supporting members 1'" of the side frames 1 (shown clearly in Fig. I), prevents the said side frames from bending under strain. The U-shaped braces 3 are formed with bows 3' at their bases and are secured to the rockers 2 at the ends of the bows and intermediate of the bows, thereby creating a stronger structure than would be obtained in' the absence of said bows.

Diagonal braces 9, each comprising two short links pivoted together at 9, extend from the side frames 1 to the foot-rest 8, the outer ends of the said short links being pivotally connected to the said side frames and foot-rest. One of the short links which comprise the said diagonal braces carries a stop 9 which limits the movement of the links in one direction and tends to keep the links on, or slightly past, dead center. Similar diagonal braces-extend from the side frame to the cross bar 7.
It will be readily understood that the rocker will be prevented from accidentally collapsing when unfolded and in use by the locked diagonal braces 9.
To fold the rocker, the diagonal braces 9 are unlocked by moving the intermediate pivot 9 inwardly, which will permit one of the side frames to swing downwardly, as is shown in Fig. III. The other side frame is then brought downwardly until it rests upon the lowermost side frame. This condition is shown clearly in Fig. IV.
One pair of the diagonal braces have their links pivoted together by means of a pin and slot connection, which permits enough play to allow the folding to be accomplished, it being necessary for one side frame to move slightly to allow the other side frame to be brought to a lowered position.
I claim:
1. A. rocker comprising side frames, foldable connections between said side frames adapted to hold them in upright position, a seat frame supported by said side frames and a seat suspended from said frame.
2. A rocker comprising side frames having curved lower portions forming rockers, foldable connections between said side frames adapted to hold them in upright position, a rectangular seat frame supported by said side frames, and a seat suspended from said seat frame.
3. A rocker comprising side frames having curved lower portions forming rockers, foldable connections between said side frames, a foot-rest supported by one of said connections, a seat frame supported by said side frames, and a seat suspended from said seat frame.
4. A rocker comprising side frames having curved lower portions forming rockers, foldable connections between said side frames, said connection comprising pairs of links pivoted to said side frame, one of said links being provided with a stop to limit movement of said connection in one direction, a seat frame supported. by said side frames, and a seat suspended from said seat frame.
5. A rocker comprising a seat frame, sid'e frames pivoted at their upper ends to said seat frame, the lower portions of said side frames being curved to form rockers, cross bars pivoted to said side frames, foldable braces between said side frames and said cross bars, adapted to hold said side frames in upright position, one pair of said braces comprising pairs of links having slot and pin connection.
6. A rocker comprising a seat frame, side frames pivoted at their upper ends to said seat frame, the lower portions of said side frames being curved to form rockers, U- shaped braces secured to the lower and upper portions of said side frames, and foldable connections between said side frames adapted to hold them in upright positions.
7. A rocker comprising a seat frame, a seat suspended from said seat frame, side frames pivoted at their upper ends to said seat frame, the lower portions of said side frames being curved to form rockers, U- shaped braces within and secured to said side frames, the lower portion of said U- shaped braces being bowed and secured to said rockers, and foldable connections between said side frames adapted to hold them in upright positions.
