Description

J. C. HANSEN. CULINARY UTENSIL. APPLICATION HLED OCT- 8. m5.
1 Patented Sept. 11,1917.
JOAKIME C. HANSEN, 0F GRAND MARAIS, MINNESOTA.
CULINARY UTENSIL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept... ML, ildtt.
Application filed October 8, 1915. Serial N 0. 54,821.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOAKIME C. HANSEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grand Marais, in the county of Cook and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Culinary Utensils, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in culinary utensils and more particularly to an adjustable biscuit cutter. A further object is to provide a biscuit cutter of an adjustable type that is cheap to manufacture and efficient in operation. With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described, particularly pointed out in the claims and illustrated in the drawing which forms a part of this specification and in which Figure l is a side elevation of my improved biscuit cutter partly in section to afford a better illustration.
Fig. 2 is an end View of the handle.
Fig. 3 is an end view of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 3 but with the movable parts in an altered position.
Like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views.
The reference numeral 1 denotes an annular head which may be formed with a crimped inwardly extending lip 2 which is then projected outwardly from said head 1 to form the annular guard 3 which obviously is of less diameter than the said head 1. The head 1 is formed or provided with the hollow handle 4 which is formed with an open end notched as at 5 to receive a latch 6 pivotally carried by the head 7 of a shaft 8 which extends through said handle and through a perforation in the head 1 and terminates in a circular inner head 9 that carries the four equidistant arms 10 that are terminally connected by the lugs 11 to a resilient blade 12 which is secured, near one end, to the guard 3 by means of a pin 13. The blade 12 serves to cut the biscuit dough. By means of the handle the said blade is forced into the dough to cut biscuit therefrom. To vary the size of the cutter the handle 4: is rotated thus turning the free end of the cutter and changing its diameter. The cutter is retained at any adjusted position by means of the latch 6 in engagement with the notched portion of the handle.
at is claimed is 1. In a culinary utensil, a head, a hollow handle carried thereby and formed with a notched end, a rotary shaft extendin longitudinally through said handle an into said head, a second head carried by said shaft and disposed in the notched end of said handle, a latch carried by said second head for engagement with the notched end of said handle, a crosshead carried by said rotary shaft within the first named head, and a flexible blade within said first named head having one end secured thereto and its body portion secured to and movable with said crosshead.
2. In a culinary utensil, head, a hollow handle carried thereby, a rotary shaft ex tending through said handle and into said head, a crosshead carried by said rotary shaft within said head, a flexible blade within said head having one end secured thereto and its body portion secured to and movable with said crosshead, and means releasably connecting said rotary shaft and hollow handle whereby they may be locked in adjusted relation.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
