permitting a substantially uninterrupted circulation of air when desired but eXcludlng ram, Insects, dust or other vundesirable material.
The object lof my invention is to' provide j a simple, reliable and easily operated device of the kind described, preferably arranged for adjusting its size to suit openings of various widths, and also provided with means for controlling the circulation of air through the device.
To this end my invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and combination of parts herein shown and described, and more particularly pointed out in the claims.

Fig. 10 is a fragmentary section taken substantially on line 10 10 of Fig. 6.
Fig. 11 is a section taken substantially on line 11 11 of Fig. 12 Showing a slightly modified form of my device.-
Fig. 12 is a section taken substantially on line l2 12 of Fig. 11.
In the form shown in the drawings, my
device consists of a pair of suitably formedk side members 1 provided with any desired number of slats 2 2 extending between them at substantially right angles to each.
The several slats are preferably attached to the respective side members at two points 3 and 4 so arranged that the lateral"inclination of the Slat may be adjusted as desired.
In the preferred construction the inner faces of the side members are substantially fiat and parallel to each other and al plurality of transverse slots or grooves '5 are provided in each to receive the connections 3 at one edge of the respective slats.` A slide 6 is fitted in a longitudinal groove near the opposite edge of the side member 1 adapted to move longitudinally therein and to receive each of the connections 4 at one end of the slats so that by moving the slides 6 longitudinally of the side members,` the lateral inclination of the several slats will be adjusted simultaneously as'desired, at the Same time retaining the transverse location of one edge of all of the slats, that is, the edge of each slat attached to the side 6 will move vertically only, while the opposite edge will adjust itself laterally in the groove 5.
In the preferred construction the slats 7 and 8 at the ends of the side members 2 are slightly wider than the remainder ofthe slats which are preferably arranged Substantially in line vertically and are So arranged upon the side members 1 thatone edge of each projects slightly beyond the line of the remaining slats. The slat Z pro jects suiiiciently to engage the window sash and form a suitable closure therewith adjacent the slide 6 as at 9. In the form showneach slide 6 is provided with a part 10 extending toward the sash and arranged to kreceive thebearing 4 of this Slat. The Slat 8 projects at the opposite edge of the device or adjacent the slots 5, and in the preferred construction the bearings 3 for this slat are bent upward slightly to remove the slot 5 slightly farther from the end of the side member 1 as it is desirable to have in line Vwith the eXtreme end of the side y sok yhandle 12er otherconvenient means is'provided upon eachY slide 6 for this purpose,
and a bolt 14:v or suitable means is rigidly secured to the side member 1 and. extends through a suitable slot 15 in the slide 6 for rigidly securing the slide in position. A
In the preferred form also a spring roller or other convenient means 16` extends between the slides 6 andV abar or roller 17 is mounted in close proximity to the edge tothe slat A8. VA pair of suitable hooks 18 *are providedv at 'thepunder' side of the slat 7 so `positioned Vthat when a suitable netting is wound upon the roller with a part extending downwardy to the bar 17 thence upwardy between the bar and the edge of the slatf 8 and thence tothe hooks 18 the .netting which is provided with a suitable rod'or bar at .its free end will be substantially in fcontact with the `edges of the several slats and will operate to exclude insects,.leaves and other light, small objects which might be carried in the air between the slats. The slats may be formedv in any suitable manner. `As shown in Fig. 3 a portion 19 `ofthe slat is `bent over at both kvedges as at 20'-20 and a part 21 is positioned 35 between the parts19 and 20 and arranged tov Vslide longitudinally thereinso that the length of Ithe slats may be adjusted within certain limits as desired.
Any suitable means may be provided'to rigidly connect the parts 19 and 21 of each sla-tto hold them in their adjusted position. In thek formshown VVa longitudinal slot 22 is provided in ythe part 21 and a bolt 23 is rigidly-attached to the part 19 and extends lthrough the slot 22 with a wing-nut 24C or other suitable means to clampthe parts together. -Suitable lmeans are also provided I to secure my device in position. In the form shown screws lor bolts 25-25 extend through .-thesid'e :members 1 into the window frame 'for this purpose.
In the form shown in Figs. 6 'and 7 the several part-s are constructed substantially the same 'as hereinbefore described, except that the slots 5 and yslides 6 are omitted leaving the faces of the side members smooth. The end of each slat is bent at substantially right kangles and a pair of screwsV or--othersuitable means 27 extends through` the bent up portion k26 of each slat into lthe kside member 28,V thereby rigidly securingthe several slats lin position. In theform also the roller 29 upon which the nettingis wound is mounted directly upon and between the side members 28, and below the upper edge of the lower slat 30 in such a position that when the netting is drawn up and the free end which .1s of course preferably provided with a suitable rod is attached to the hook 31 upon the upper slat 32, the netting will be deflected outward slightly by the upper edge of the lower slat 30 and will lie substantially in contact with the edges of the intermediate slats. The several slats are arranged in substantially the same general position as hereinbefore described, so as to permit free movement of the window. The slats in this form are arranged to telescope as hereinbefore described, to allow for variation in the widths of the window. In the form shown in Figs. 11 and 12 a suitably formed socket 35 is provided adapted to be attached to the side members by suitable screws 36h36 at its extremities. A suitable bar formed of wood, fiber, or other convenient material extends between the side members with the ends of the bar extending into properly fitting sockets.
I-Iaving thus described my improvement it is obvious that various immaterial modifications may be ymade in my device without departing from the spirit of my invention, hence I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the exact form or construction shown.
What Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is.:
1. In a device of the kind described, a frame, ycomprising a pair of side members and a plurality of slats connecting said side members and positioned at substantially right angles thereto, the slats adjacent the ends of said side members projecting laterally at opposite sides respectively of the remaining of said slats, and means for securing said frame in position, whereby said end slats coperate with the sash and sill respectively of the window to form a weather proof covering for the window opening.
2. In a device of the kind described, a frame, comprising a pair of substantially parallel side members and `a plurality of laterally inclined pivotally mounted slats each engaged at each side member at ltwo points at the extreme edges of said slats, one of which is adapted to move longitudinally only of said side members and rthe other transversely vthereof and positioned at substantially right angles thereto, and means for securing said frame in position.
3. In a ldevice of the ykind described, a frame, comprising a pair of side members and a plurality of laterally inclined slats each pivotallyI engaged at each side Imember at two points and positioned at substantially .right angles thereto.
4. In a device -of the kind described, a.
frame, comprising a pair of side members In testimony whereof, I, have hereunto and a plurality of slats each pvotally en- Vsigned my name n the presence of two subgagecl at each side member at two points at soribng witnesses.
