PAPER-DISPEN SING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 22, 1917.
Application filed February 17, 1916. Serial No. 78,944.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK L. Urorm, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sapulpa, in the county of Greek and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper-Dis pensing Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to paper dispensing devices and more particularly to new and useful improvements in advertising bill poster applying devices.
An object of my invention is to provide a simple, cheap and effective dispensing container for use in applying advertising bill paper and the like to plain surfaces, such as bill-boards and the like.
Another object of my invention is to provide a container of the class described having means for retaining a roll of blank paper, said container having means for severing the paper to form sheets.
A further object of my invention is to provide an improved closure for the container whereby to prevent dislodgment of the roll of paper and at the same time permitting easy access to the interior of said container.
Other objects and advantages to be derived from my invention will beapparent from the following detail description, taken with an inspection of the accompanying drawings in which,

Referring more particularly to the drawings, wherein similar characters of reference designate like and corresponding parts throughout the various views, 1 designates my improved dispensing container in its entirety, said container preferably being cylindrical and having'a bottom 2 and a peripheral side wall 3. The upper end of the container is preferably open, a closure 4 being receivable thereon. The closure 4 is provided with a flange 5 which embraces the upper end of the container 1,
said flange having a plurality of bayonet slots 6 engageable with a suitable pin 7 carried by the peripheral wall 8 of the container 1.
The peripheral wall 8 of the container is provided with a slot 8 extending through its length, said wall being provided with a curved blade 9 provided with cutting teeth 10 along its free margin. The flange 5 of the closure 4 is provided with a recess 11 registrable with the slot 8 when the closure is applied to the container, as best shown in Fig. 1.
I provide means within the container for supporting a roll of paper, said means including preferably a staff 12 extending axially of the container throughout its length and provided on its lower extremity with an annular enlargement 13 and a flared recessed portion 14 adapted to receive a handle 15. The staff 12 extends through the closure 4 as indicated at 16 to prevent lateral rocking movement of the container on said staff. A tube 17 is carried by the staff 12 and the roll of paper 18 is wound thereabout. The paper roll is placed within the container in such position that the free end 19 thereof is brought out over the blade 9 as best shown in Fig. 3.
In use the roll of paper is placed within the container 1, the free end of said roll being brought out through the slot 8 as hereinbefore explained. The container is supported by the handle 15 adjacent to a bill-board 20 or the like and the paper end 19 is secured to the board by means of the usual adhesive material or paste commonly used for this purpose. The container may now be moved along the board until the full length of the particular advertising matter is exposed and by holding the paste brush against the paper 19 the teeth 10 may be employed for severing the paper. Each workman may be supplied with a roll of the blank paper the same being applied at the various'points on this route.
From the above description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings it is thought that a clear and comprehensive understanding of the construction, use and advantages of my invention may be readily gathered, and while I have shown and described the same as embodying a specific structure I do not desire to be limited to such structure but reserve the right to make such changes in said structure as do not centrically thereof, a tube member adapted to-receive a roll of paper thereon rotatably mounted in said openings, the paper being adapted to be withdrawn through said slots,
a staff member extending axially of the tube throughout its length, and an enlargement formed on said staff providing supporting means for the cylinder In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
