Fitted about the reservoir is a casing 12 which extends from the distributing end of the reservoir to a point inwardly of and end, and the reservoir vreservoir to revent aossible V21 to the casing, and has its leasing the bar is held against movement to project its distributing ends from the corresponding end of the casing by abutment of its shoulder 7 with an inwardly struck annular shoulder 13 of the casing. Tnwardly of its shoulder 13, the casing is rovided with an outwardly struck annular shoulder 111 which fits over the adjacent end of the casing, t0 shield the hood 9 when the pencil is not in use, and by limiting the inward movement of. this cap on the pencil, compression of the hood 9 to permit possible accidental escape. oit the contents of the reservoir 13 is prevented.

Inwardly of its other end, the casing 12 is provided with an outwardly struck annular shoulder 16 which forms a stop for a filling end closure cap 17 Jrictionally engageable on said other end o the casing and the end of this cap in the closing position thereof abuts the stopper 10 of the displacement of said stopper such as might occur upon jarring movement of the pencil suiiicient to displace the spring wires 11. To provide a means orlocking this cap 17 on the casing, which means serves also to hold the reservoir against movement with respect yto the casing, particularly when the cap is detached, a holding bar 18 is intermediately ivoted t0 the casing adjacent its shoulder 1G by the passage of a spring piece 19 through an opening 20 in said bar. This spring piece has one end secured by a clip other end bearing against the outer face of the bar, and the bar projects outwardly of the end of the casing, and carries at its outer end a ball head 22 which is engageable through an opening 23 in the cap end and which when the reservoir is in normal position in the casing rests within the outer peripheral groove formed at 6 in the reservoir. 1

Thus upon pressing the inner end of the bar 18, which is curved away from the casing, the head 22 may be retracted to permit the detachment of the cap, and upon rethe head 22 will Jirictionally engage the reservoir to hold it against displacement. This bar and spring form a part of a conventional clip, which does not enter into the present invention except with respect to its speciiic relation with the reservoir and casing, and it will be appreciated that any suitable means Jfor holding the cap, which also possesses the function of holding the reservoir when the cap is removed, can be employed. y

With the filling end closure cap 7 in place, the present glue and mucilage pencil comprises a compact device capable of convenient manipulation, inasmuch as the filling means of the pencil are entirely shielded. T'Vlien it is desired to fill the pencil, the cap 17 is removed, the reservoir is drawn partly out of the casing, the stopper 10 is withdrawn either entirely or partly in such manner that it is loosely held by the spring wire 11 to lie at the side of the mouth of the reservoir, and the lilling of the reservoir is effected in a ready and exact manner, the reservoir being held in partly projected position by lrictional engagement of the locking head 22.

Tn cold weather it is necessary to heat the reservoir to reduce the fluid therein, and to accomplish this the reservoir is entirely withdrawn from the casing and preferably placed in hot water.

1. A mucilage pencil comprising an open end casing, an open end reservoir in the casing, a distributing means at one end of the reservoir, a lling closure at the other end of the reservoir, closure caps for the ends of the casing and means for holding the reservoir in the easing.

2. A mucilage pencil comprising an open end casing, an open end reservoir in the casing, a distributing means at one end of the reservoir, a lling closure at the other end of the reservoir, closure caps for the ends of the casing, means for holding the reservoir in the casing, and the filling closure of the reservoir normally abutting the adjacent closure of the casing.

3. A mucilage pencil comprising a casing, an open end reservoir in the casing, a distributing means at one end of the reservoir, a filling closure at the other end of the reservoir and means for detachably holding the reservoir in the casing.

A mucilage pencil comprising an open end casing, an open end reservoir in the casing, a distributing means at one end of the reservoir, a illing closure at the other end of the reservoir, a detachable closure Jfor the adjacent end of the casing and means d of the reservoir, a cap f `for 'securing the closure to the casing said means being also engageable with the reservoir to hold it in the casmg.
