MONOGRAM-STAMP.

Application filed February 1, 1916.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HELFRID STENSTROM, a subject of the-King of Sweden, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented others at the will of the operator.

lVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanyin drawings: Figure 1 is a bot-tom plan view illustrating one form of my invent-ion. Fig. 2 is a view in section on the line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig.1 illustrating a modified shape of monogram stamp, and Fig. A is a view inof the holder, is bent inwardly forming more or less elastic or spring flanges 5 which exert a gripping action against the blocks 6, 7, and 8, to secure them in the holder.

The blocks 6, 7, and 8, are preferably of rubber or similar material having raised letters 9 on their outer faces. The blocks 6 and 8 fit in the corners of the holder, while the block 7 is positioned diagonally of the holder, and has its ends in the opposite corners of the holder.

As the blocks are preferably of rubber or other yielding material, they are somewhat compressed by the pressure against the flanges 5, as shown clearly in Fig. 3, so that Specification of Letters Patent.

when they are forced into the holder, they are securely held.

It is to be understood that complete alphabets of blocks 6, 7, and S will be provided so that any monogram can be quickly placed in the holder and quickly removed. and changed as desired.

My invention is, of course, not limited to any particular style of letter, nor to the precise shape of the letters, blocks, and holder's.

In Figs. 3 and 4 I have illustrated a modification in which a holder 10 of general elliptical form is provided and receives blocks 11, 12, and 13, corresponding to blocks (3, 7, and S of the )referred form.

The raised letters M on the blocks 11, 12, and 18, are of a character corresponding to the shape of the blocks, but in other respects the structure is like the preferred form, and I have used like reference characters to indicate like parts.

My improved stamp is especially adapted for stamping embroidery, clothing, household goods, and when made small is adapted for use on stationery, although of course, my invention is not limited to any particular use.

Various slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of parts described without departing from my invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A stamping device, comprising a holder having a recess, certain of the side walls of which intersect each other and form a closure, a plurality of irregularly shaped blocks each having an outer edge surface fitting a particular part of the side walls of the recess, said blocks also having edge surfaces which fit against each other, each block having a letter thereon projecting beyond the face of the holder, substantially as described.

2. A stamping device, comprising a holder having a recess therein, and a plurality of irregularly shaped blocks within said recess, the side wall of said recess forming a complete inclosure for the blocks, said blocks having letters thereon projecting beyond the recessed portion of the block, certain ofthe blocks being longer than other of the blocks, each of said blocks having an edge surface fitting against an edge surface of another block, the outer edge surfaces of the blocks When fitted together being flush With each other and fitting said recess, substantially as described.

3. A stamping device, comprising a holder having a recess therein, and a plurality of irregularly shaped blocks Within said recess, each of said blocks having an edge surface against an edge surface of another block, the outer edge surfaces of the blocks when fitted together being flush with each other and fitting said recess, the side Wall of said recess forming a complete inclosure for the blocks, certain of said blocks having different shapes and designed to fit different portions of the walls forming the inclosure, said blocks also having letters thereon projecting beyond the recessed portion of the block, substantially as described.
