Description
naman trib,
itil L EMERGENCY DOOR-LOCK.
Application filed March 25, 1915.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN KACENGA, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Witt, Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Emergency Door-Locks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in emergency door locks, and has for its object a sliding bolt equipped with a hook or inserted prong, which prong is placed in position in one of the openings of the lock plate of the door frame .and a locking block placed in position between the door and the sliding bolt forming an absolute solid lock.
A further object of my invention is to construct a lock which can be carried in the pocket of a traveler and be readily inserted and adjusted to any hotel door, forming an absolute lock without in any way marring the wood work of the door or casing.
Figure 1, is a perspective view of my invention showing the same in applied position. Fig. 2, is a horizontal sectional View of the same. Fig. 3, is a top plan view of my improved lock when used in connection with an outside lock or one that is not concealed in the door or door frame.
In referring to the drawings in detail l represents a door, 5 the casing, 6 the bolt recess, and 7 the lock plate. Between the door and the door casing is adapted to be inserted my improved emergency lock which consists of a sliding bolt 8, provided with two elongated slots 9 and 10. These slots extend through the material with the exception of the ends and on one side of the bolt is located a clamping arm 11, arranged preferably rectangular in form; its one member 12, contacting` with the surface of the bolt and the same is held to the bolt by a sliding` ferrule 13. 'Io this ferrule is attached the member 12, by means of a rivet 111, passing through the ferrule and the member 12, and also through the slot 10. By this arrangement the bolt 8, may be shifted so as to bring its end on flush alinement with the section 15, of the clamping arm 11. The free end of the section 15, is provided with a hook 16, which is adapted to be inserted in a cavity or bolt hole of the lock plate. To the ferrule 13, is attached a link 17, the opposite end of said link being connected to a loop 18, which is firmly fastened to a locking'- block 19, and the loop Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 12, 1916.,
Serial No. 16,841'.
, 18, is so arranged as vto permit the free end 20, of the bolt 8, to pass therethrough, and act as a support or binder for the block 19; when said block is placed between the bolt and the face of the door as that shown .in the illustration. On the opposite end of the bolt 8, is located a sliding ferrule 21, which is fastened to the hook 22, and held in position on the bolt by the rivet 23, extending through the slot 9. With this hook the lock may be placed in position on a door having the old-styled outside locks, and the same is applied by inserting the hook in, the bolt casing 24, and then sliding the bolt 8 in position as that shown in Fig. 8.
The bolt is made slidable and all parts held intact so that the fastening plate may be first inserted and then the door closed. When so done the block 19 is placed in position between the door and the bolt advanced, and the block is held in position against the face of the door. When so posi tioned it will be impossible for the door to be (pened from the opposite side.
I aving fully described my invention what I claim is:
1. A bolt of the character described, comprising a slotted sliding bolt, a locking arm connected thereto, a sliding ferrule connected to the locking arm and slidably mounted over said bolt, a rivet carried by the ferrule and locking arm and extending through the slot in the bolt, and a block hingedly connected to said ferrule by a link and adapted to be inserted between the bolt and the face of a door to which the device is attached, snlzstantially as specified.
2. An emergency lock, comprising a locking arm having its one end shaped in the form of a hook which is adapted to be inserted in the bolt recess of the door casing, a slotted sliding bolt carried by said locking arm, means passing through the slot in the bolt and carried by the locking arm, and a block arranged to be inserted between the bolt and the face of the door, and a` flexible means for supporting the block, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification, in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN KACENGA.
