' TONY DRENCHKO, 0F FtANKLIN, PENNSYLVANIA.
PENCIL-HOLDING ATTACHMENT.
Leanser.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be litknown that I, ToNY DRENGHKO, a
citizen of the United States, residing at VFranklin, in the countyfof Cambria and State of Pennsylvania,have-,invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pencil-Holding Attaohmentsof which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and usefull improvements in pencil holder attachments,
and the rimary object of the invention is to provi e anew andv improved attachment for a pencil holder, which comprises a penknife secured thereto and forming an integral part of the same which attachment will greatly increase the .efficiency and usefulness of Ta device of this character, as tli'e knife will always be handy when its use is required. v f Another object of 'this invention is to providea pencil holder of the conventional type, which is formed `of a single piece of metal, having one edge projecting and bent to forni .a knife holder, and a knife blade pivoted therein, whereby theattachment may be'very easily and simply constructed, as the number of parts necessary to form this useful article is reduced to a minimum.
Another object of theinvention is to provide a device Vof this character which is easily and simply constructed, inexpensive to manufacture, and one which will be very eiicient in operation.
With these and numerous other objects in view, my invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts which will be herein referred to and more particularly pointed out d in the specification and claim.
ln the accompanying drawings: Figure l is a perspective of a pencil showing my attachment applied thereto,
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sect-ion through the holder when the same is appliedto the pencil, and A Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
ln describing my invention, l shall refer to the drawings in `which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
'The numeral l designates a lead pencil Specification of Letters Patent. A.application inea January 1s, 191s. serial No. 212,496. A

' of the conventional type provided `with a suitable eraser 3, and the numeral 2 the holder, which is formed tubular, being constructed of a single piece of metal bent 'of the desired shape. One edge of the holder' designated by the numeral 4 projects from the adjacent edge, and is bent -back upon 1 itself inparallel spaced relation to 'form a' yknife holder or casing.
Within the holder, formed by the bent edge 4, is positioned a knife blade 5, pivoted as shown at 6 in one end of the holder, said blade being of substantially the. saine length, and adapted to register Within the holder when in normal position, as clearly shown in Fig. 2 ofthe drawing. The edge of the holder is notched as shown at 7 ,-so as the knife blade may be easily withdrawn from closed position.
To additionally hold ,the pencil holder on the end of a pencil, an ordinary type of pencil -holding clip 9 is positioned on a. pencil, as clearly shown in Figs.' l and 2 of the drawings, and the extremity thereof is adapted for engagement with the inner end of the knife holder. This forms an additional securing means, and may be employed if so desired.' n operation, the holder constructed as has been fully described, is adapted to be positioned on the end of a pencil or the like, and when so arranged, it greatly increases the eliiciency of an article of this character, as the knife will always be handy, when it is desired to use the same to sharpen a pensoV cil, or tomake an erasure which cannot be ordinarily removed with the rubber eraser commonly positioned in the end of a pencil holder. To sharpen a pencil, the' holder is slipped from the end on which it is positioned, but for making the erasure, the knife need only be opened lto the position shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing.
From the above description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it is thought that a clear and comprehensive understanding of the construction, operation, and advantages of my invention may be had, and while l have shown'and described the device as embodying a specific structure, l desireA that it be understood that such changes may be made in said structure as do not 31e-pari; imm lle spirit and swipe of the nvenon as Caimed.
