IMPROVEMENT iN LOUNGE BEDSTEADS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 128,908, dated July 9, 1872.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HERMANN H. REIOHERT, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Lounge Bedstead; and 1 do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to theaccompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in which draw- 1ng-- Figure 1 represents a plan or top view of my bedstead when the same is unfolded. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectionof the same in the plane .90 m, Fig. 1., Fig. 3 is a front view of the same when folded up.

This invention consists in the arrangement of a detachable folding rail, which, when the lounge is unfolded for the purpose of producin g a bedstead, can be readily connected thereto so as to form a side rail and a foot-board,

whereby the bedclothes are prevented from dropping ofi, and when the bedstead is to be folded up, said rail can bereadily taken oif,folded up, and stowed away on supports secured to the main frame of the lounge.

In the drawing, the letter A designates the main frame of my lounge, to which is secured the back B and the head piece 0. With said main frame is connected an additional or secondary frame, D, the connection between these two frames being effected by hinge-joints a a, so that said secondary frame can be unfolded to the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2, or that it can be folded over the main frame to the position shown in Fig. 3. On this secondary frame are secured legs b b, which can be turned up or down, and when the frame is unfolded,-

said legs are turned down, (see Fig. 2,) so as to support the outer portion thereof. The letter E designates a detachable rail which is made in two sections, connected by a hingejoint, 0, and which is provided with dowelpins 0?, to drop into sockets in the edges of the frames A and D. When the secondary frame is unfolded and the rail E is secured in position on the frames A and D, it forms a side rail and foot-board, and when the lounge is to be folded up the rail E can be readily re moved; and when the same is folded it can be stowed. away on supports e, secured to the main frame A. (See Fig. 3.) The head piece (1 is made in two sections, connected by hinge-joints, so that the same can be folded or unfolded, and the outer section is provided with a loop, f, which, when the lounge is un folded to form a bedstead, serves to retain a hook, g, secured to the detachable folding rail E, so that the whole is rendered firm, and that by unfolding my lounge a bedstead is obtained which can conveniently accommodate two persons.

When my lounge is folded up it does not occupy any more room than an ordinary lounge.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is'-- The detachable rails E. connected together by a hinge-joint and forming the foot-board and side rail, as described, in combination with the frames A D, and folding head-piece O, substantially as specified for the purpose set forth.
