Description
G. BRUECK.
. Torchv.
Patented July 2,1872L eUsrAv Bannon, or New YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN TORCHES.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUSTAV BRUEGK, of the city, county, and State of New York, have in vented a new and useful Improvement in Torches; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in which drawing- Figure l is a side view of this invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical central section ofthe same. Similar letters indicate corresponding parts. This invention consists in the arrangement of a semi-transparent torch-protector, made in the form of an inverted truncated cone,in combination with a base-plate iittin g the lower end of said protector, and' forming the support for the torch or candle, and for the stick that serves to carry the torch, in such a manner that when the base-plate is introduced into the protector it is readily secured in thelower or narrowend of the same, and if the torch is lighted it can be conveniently carried without danger of soiling the clothes, and at the same time it presents a neat appearance, and is of material advantage for out-door illuminating` purposes.
In the drawing, the letter A designates a stick or rod, which is provided on its upper end with a disk, B, that forms a support for a candle or torch, D. Said disk is conical, and it also forms a base-plate for a protector, C, which is made in the form of an invert-edtruncated cone. The disk is secured in the lower end of the protector by means of gum or other adhesive material, which is applied to its pe- Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 128,586, dated July 2, 1872.
riphery; and just before the disk is allowed to drop down into the mouth or top end of the protector the gum is moistened, and, by reason of the tapering form of the protector, the disk will be prevented from dropping out, its inherent gravity serving to cause it to be firmly wedged or secured in' the lower or narrow end of the protector. lhe disk B supports a torch or candle, l), being provided with a metallic ring, a, that serves to hold the candle in position.
The protector C is made in the form of an inverted truncated cone, and of a semi-transparent material, so that when the candle is lighted and the protector be emblazoned or ornamented with characters or gures, the
whole will present a very handsome appearance; and by reason of its peculiar shape and construction it can be conveniently carried about without danger of soiling the clothes by the drippings of the candle or torch.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The torch-protector C, made in the form of an inverted truncated cone, in combination with a base-plate or disk, B, fitting the bottom end of said protector, and forming the support for a torch or candle, D, and for the stick A that serves to carry the torch, substantially as described.
fThis specification signed by me this 28th day of May, 1872.l
GUSTAV BRUECK.
