s. F. JONES. HOSE CLAMP.
APPLICATION FILED OCT. I3, I91].
Patented Oct. 29, 1918.
avwemtoz eorge f j' a or,
GEORGEF. JONES, OF FAIRFIELD, ILLINOIS.
Hose-01.1mm
To all whom it may mm: 1 Be it known that 1, Gnonen F. Joints, a citizen of the United States, residing at F airfield, in the county of Wayne and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hose-Clamps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to clamping devlces I especially adapted for use in connection with hose couplings, although the device .may be equally well adapted for clamping hoops upon wooden silos or for other purposes. The object of the invention is to provide novel means for tensioning andholding in position a flexible element used for the pur:
poses above set forth, the said means in- .cluding a frame provided with a concaved base and parallel bearing arms in which-is mounted for rotation an ad usting key,
me'ans being provided for holding the key in its adjusted position, the frame being further provided upon each of its s1de edges with guiding notches to receive and guide the rfiexible element.
Fig. 4 is a detailed view of the modified v form of key upon which there is provided a squared projection for'the reception of a wrench; and
Fig. 5 is a view of a still furthermodified form having an opening in the finger piece for the reception of the-punch or other instrument. a
In the drawings, there is illustrated a con-- pling member 10, which is designed to couple twosectie'ns'of a hose, one of such sections being indicated at 11; v
The clamping or tensioning devlce con- -sists of a frame providedwith a base12, the under facet-of WlllCh is concave -as,shown at 13. This base is provided at each end with parallel bearing arms 14, having alined Specification of Letters Patent.
perspective view of the inend of this key is provided with a finger piece 17 and between this finger piece and the adjacent bearing arm the key has formed therein or secured thereto a ratchet wheel 18. lVIounted upon the bearing arm for engagement with the ratchet wheel 18 is-a pawl 19,-which is adapted to engage the teeth of the said wheel to hold the key 16 in its adjusted position.
The .key 16 is formed in' that portion which lies between the parallel bearing arms 152 with the opening '20, which is adapted to receive both ends of aflexibleelement 21, which is preferably in the form of a wire. This element is adapted to be-passed around the coupling member in a manner to form a double loop, the strands of one loop being received and guided in the notches 22 formed in the opposite side edges of the base 12'.
Inthe operation of the device, the flexible- .to make such changes.
Havingdescribedthe invention, what is claimed is: 1. Means for clamping two pipes together comprising in combination a frame including a base and-spaced parallel side arms,
legs extending below said base to'space the bottom face of the latter from a support to define a passage, an adjusting key rotatably mounted in said arms, a loop flexible element engaging said key, whereby'rotation'of the latter will enlarge or reduce the loop and means carried by the key and engageable' Patented Oct. 29, 191$. Applieation filed October 13, 1917. Serial No. 196,448. I
with means carried by the frame for holding the key in its adjusted position.
2. A clamp comprising .'in combination a frame including a blade and spaced parallel side arms, lugs extending below said base to space the bottom face of the latter from a support and defininga passage,-an adjusting key rotatably mounted in said arms,
a looped flexible element engaging said key,
anaemia whereby the rotation of the latter Will enlarge or reduce the loop, means for holding the key in its adjusted position and guiding notches formed in opposite edges of the face -for guiding the flexible element.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
GEORGE E. JONES.
