Description

L. RUSSELL.
LOCK STRIKE.
APPLICATION FILED MAR. 23, I918.

ame W130? LEO RUSSELL, OF MINERAL WELLS, TEXAS.
LOCK-STRIKE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July e, 1918.
Application filed March 23, 1918. Serial No. 224,120.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEO RUssELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mineral Wells, in the county of Palo Pinto and 'State of Texas, have invented new and useful, Improvements in Lock-Strikes, of. which I the following is a specification.
- plate adjustable both vertically and This invention relates to new and useful improvements in keeper plates for door locks, and the principal object of the invention is to provide means for renderin the orizontally without detaching the same from the door jamb.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple and durable in construction, reliable and efficient in operation and one which can be manufactured and placed upon the market at a minimum cost.
The invention also consists incertain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be. hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
Indescribing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in wh1ch:
Figure 1 shows the three plates composingvthe invention separated.
' ig. 2 is a viewof the parts assembled, and in position on the door jamb.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section through the assembled plates.
As shown in the drawings the device is applied in the usual recess 1, formed in the door jamb, and said device consists of the bottom late 2 provided with the screw holes 3 at t e ends thereof, and the center recess 4, which forms a continuation of the recess in the door jamb, and into which the bolt of the lock projects; the intermediate plate 5 and the top plate 6. The intermediate plate is rovided with a trans versely extending 0t 7 at each end thereof, which will register with the screw holes 3 when the parts are assembled. Said intermediate plate is also rovided with a recess 8 on each face thereo and with an opening 9 formed in the metal, separating said recesses and the ends of said opening are re-' duced as at 10. Said intermediate plate is I also-provided with an extension 11 at one edge thereof, forming a striking part to engage the latch of the lock. The plate 6 is provided with an elongated opening 12, having one part made wider than the other part, as is usual, for receiving the bolt and latch of the lock. Said plate is also pro-.
vided with the circular openings 13 at the ends thereof, which register with the reduced ends 10 of the opening 9, when said top plate is placed in the recess 8 in the front face of the plate 5. Said top plate is held in said recess by suitable screws, passing through said openings 13 and the reduced ends 10 of the opening 9 and engaging screw threaded holes 14 in holding plates 15 which engage the recess in the rear face of the plate 5.
As will be seen the recesses 8 are of greater length than the length of the plate 6 so that said plate may be adjusted vertically on the plate 5. The plate 5 is placed over the plate 2, and held thereon by suitable screws passing through the slots 7 and through the holes 3 into the door jamb.
It will thus be seen that by loosening the screws holding the plate 5 on the plate 2 i that said plate 5 may be adjusted horizontally and that by loosening the screws holding the top plate to the intermediate plate, said plate may be adjusted vertically, thus the device may be adjusted to make the lock hold the door tight after the door has become warped or should sag on its hinges. In this way the rattling of the door may be prevented, and the catch of the lock made to engage the keeper plate without rehanging the door.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make such changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is 1. A device of the class described com prising a flat plate having a transverse slot at each end thereof for receiving the securing means and a centrally located recess, a second .plate seated in said recess and means for adjusting the second plate vertically in said recess. a
2. A device of the class describfl comprising a plate having a hole in each end thereof, a second plate having a horizontal slot at 'each end thereof, registering with the said holes, a recess formed in each face of said second plate, and an opening in said recess having its ends reduced, a top plate having a central opening and a hole at each end, said top plate fitting in the recess in the top face of the second plate, a pair of plates engaging the recess in the bottom face of the second plate, screws passing through the openings in the top plate, and the reduced ends of the opening in the second plate, and engaging openings in the pair of plates, and screws passing through the slots in the second plate and the holes in the first plate.
In testimony whereof I afix my signature.
LEO RUSSELL.
