To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Pn'rno KUREGZKA, a subject of the Emperor of Austria, residing at Clearfield, in the county of Glearfield and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Man- Carriers, of which the following is a specification.

The primary object of the invention is the provision of a carrier especially adapted for army use whereby a person may readily carry another upon his back, as the-conveying of a wounded soldier to the ambulance.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a saddle adapted to be worn on the back of a person for advantageously carrying heavy loads such as a dead or Wounded person, the structure beinglight in weight, possessing great strength and durability as well as being easy and inexpensive to manufacture.

In the drawing forming a part of this ap- I It being understood that my carrier is designed for positioning upon the back of a person, the same is herein illustrated in connection with the representation of an ambulance attendant 10 provided with the device, the latter broadly consisting of a substantially rectangular seat 11 having a belt 12 secured by means of a buckle 13 around the waist of the user while shoulder straps 14 are attached to the belt as at 15 at points adjacent the seat and after crossing each other at the back of the neck of the wearer,

the said straps are secured to the belt-12 by buckles16 at the forward portion thereof.

Leather bands or metal straps 17 are secured to the rearward corners of the seatll' and are attached to the strapsl at their crossing point 18. In operation, the seat 11 is securedupon the back of theattendant 10 rearwardly projecting from the belt 12 at substantially the line ofthe hips while the attaching point 18 between the straps 1 1 and 17 is adjacent the shoulders of the wearer thereby bringing the weight of the load upon the strongest portions of the body. It will be understood that a wounded soldier may be positionedupon the seat 11 facing either forwardly or rearwardly of the attendant 10 and with his legs depending over the curved opposite edges 19 of the seat. The head of the soldier being carried'may project upwardly between the straps 17 while with his hands he may grasp either the straps 14 or 17 for maintaining hisposition upon the seat 11. It is-obvious that the body of a soldier might also be laid uponthe board 11 beneath the strap 17 and read ily carried by the attendant in this position.

lVhen the straps 17 are formed of metal the same are adapted to maintain the seat 11 normally substantially horizontal. be'obvious that the device may be employed for other uses if desired and its manner of employment altered as the occasion may require.

What I claim as new is 1. A holder adapted for use by ambulance attendants for carrying wounded soldiers comprising a belt adapted to be worn by the attendant, a rigid seat rearwardly projecting from the belt arranged adjacent the hip line of the wearer, shoulder straps connected to the belt adjacent the forward corners of the seat with their free ends detachably connected to the forward portions of the belt and rigid straps having their lower ends attached to the rear corners of the seat with their upper ends secured to the shoulder straps at a point adjacent the shoulder line when the device is being worn.

2. A carrier of the type described comprising a detachable belt, a rigid seat at:

tached substantially centrally to the belt shoulder straps secured together intermediate their ends with corresponding ends rigidly attached to opposite corners of the seat adjacent the belt and their other ends detachably' secured to the opposite forward portions of the belt and curved rigid straps attached-to the free corners of the seat and to the crossing point of the shoulder straps providing a body engaging portion at the said lastinamed point of connection.
