Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J une 18, 1918.
Application led November 26, 1915. Serial No. 63,598.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, (hun C. SHUM, n citizen of the United States, residinpr :it liedford, in the county of lnylor and Stilte of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fuel-Vnporizers7 of which the following is specification.
My present. invention rel-.ttes to :i new and improved fuel vnporizing device to he used in connection with internal conihnstimi engines; and the prinuiry ohject of the in vention is to provide :t novel device of this nnY ture that inny hc positioned in .single or ninniiold intake pipes or conduitstm prop orly gusit'yingr the fue! before it entri.. thtcylinder head or heads so that tht i-lwn'go will ignite more freely and the grows expand with grenier lfircc thtn would other iw." l. the ense :ind to thus` not. only erasure :l more elicient operation of tht' engine, or other do vico in connection with which it. is used, hut t0 also ininiiniztl the amount, oi' fuel con sunied.
A further object. of iny invention is to pro vide a new and improved device of the type in question that is extremely simple, strong and durable, sind highly practical from hotll the standpoint of the manufacturer und the standpoint oi' the user; sind which. it is luf-- lieved iii-.ty he intuitif-tutored :it n miii'iinnxri (IOSL.
Various otherobjects und ntltnritnge-i. will become apparent during tht`4 continu-.turc of the following description.
These objects :tre accomplished hy such means as :irc shonn in their pioltfiit-.d im u in the accompanying! drawinn's. described in the following' specification und then more specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings wherein `like characters designate like parts throughout the several views;
Figure 1 is a. View in end elevation showing my invention, as in its preferred einbodime-nt, in connection with the portion of an internal combustion engine of the con- 'ventional form.
Fig. 2 is :i View in side elevation of my invention showing the sinne as in pince in connection with the intake pipe.
In the drawings A designates the body of the engine in connection wtli which my in vention has been illustrated, the snuie being provided with an exhaust pipe l. :und intake pipe C, as clearly shown in Fig. 1.
screw threaded sdjztccnt its ends :is :it 11- and 1i! in order to he received in soitnhlt` y apertures therefor sul-h :is will he hereinul'ter sf-t lilith. Interim-.diete its ends, tin` hotly 1H "t, provided with .i. plurality of spoort upurt disks 13 Whirl: muy he either intentan therewith, such by being enst, or mounts-.i lo he removable therefromA l fri'flrw providt om.. willi of the intake pipe (f with :it screw threaded opening 14 to permit the insertion of the gosifier therein, and the other woll with a. similarly threaded opening l5, ot less dinnieter, to receive the screw threaded portion 11 of the body 11,0. After the gasitier has been arranged within the intake pipo in the desired position, the closing nutlt which hns n screw threaded opening 17 for receiving the screw threaded portion 12 of the body l0, is screwed upon the hotly until the exteriorly-.ciew threaded flange 18 thereof seats snugly within the opening 14. Thus it will he understood that` the horly 10 will beheld in zijn approximately stntio xy position and incidentally in the path of thtYA fuel flowing through the intake pipe.
The whnnst manifold. D of the engine is provided with :in outlet pipe l to which is connected the nipple 2U that is in turn conneeted with a second pipe 21 through the medium of an elbow 22. A fitting;r 23 is carried at the other end of the pipe Q1 which in turn connects with a pipe 24 which is secured to the projecting end of the body 10 of the esitier by an elbow 25. Consequently it will e observed that a4 portion of the ex-V haust grises from the engine will be conducted directly to the hollow body of the grisifier so as to properly heat the -seme and also heat the disks 13 which ure carried thereby. The screw threaded end 15 of the body ofy the giisilier also connects with an elbow 2G which receives the gases from the body of the gasifier in an obvious manner. It is pointed out that this elbow 26, may also be connected with anoutletf'pipe such as designated et 26 4 whereby: the gases from the body muy be made to pass freely into the atmosphere.
111th@ operation of my duvioo it will bo understood that n portion of tho exhaust gases from 4the` ongino will lio conducted through the pipes 20, 21. und 24 to tho body 10 of tho gnsilier, snr-,h :is will unimo thv liody :1S well as tho dialisil 1h to hooonuhentml to an appreciable extent. Connuquently no tho fuel )assos over und hotwuon thv` (linko it will e completely gnsified boforo ranching the cylinder hond. By first prolun'ly gnsifying the fuel, the Chiu-go may he ignited moro freely and the gases will oxpnnd with `d greater force than. would otherwise lio ilu:
case.
