COLLAIPSIIBLE IBILLIARD AND POOL TABLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 18, 1918.
Application filed April 21, 1917, Serial No. 163,649. Renewed April 15, 1918. Serial No. 228,808.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERBERT F. LAPP, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collapsible Billiard and Pool Tables, of which I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. i
The objects of the invention aretoiproi vide an improved form of collapsible billiard and pool table which can be folded into the form of a crate and transformed into a container in which the accompanying supports and implements of the game such as the balls and cues can be stored for shipment.
The invention includes a table provided with detachable side rails, a reinforced folding bottom or bed member and a collapsible support therefor including rigid frame members interlocked with the reinforcing means of the table, bottom and vertical posts rigidly and detachably secured to the frame members.
It comprises also the combination and arrangement of parts and construction of details hereinafter described, shown in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a plan of the device; Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal central section of the device; Fig. 3 is an enlarged portion of the same; Fig. 4 is a transverse section of Fig. 1; Fig. 5 is a perspective of the folded bed showing it employed to inclose the parts of the frame and posts and the implements of the game. Fig. 6 is an enlarged plan of one of the posts showing the rigid means for attaching the frame members thereto; Fig. 7 isaside elevation of one end of one of the frame members; Fig. 8 is a. perspective of one of the covers for the crated table shown in Fig. 5, showing the cover employed as a wall case for the balls and game counters. Fig. 9 is a vertical longitudinal section of the table bed on line aa Fig. 1.
In these views A is the folding bed of the table which is formed in sections hinged together at B and having the transverse edges reinforced by added strips at C, C. This table bed is preferably rigidly constructed of veneer plates A as shown in Fig. 3 having the grain crossed therein to prevent subsequent warp ng, also the adjacent edges of the bed sectlons overlap or interlock at A to prevent subsequent change of level after mounting.
D, D are the side rails for the bed prothe outer edges of the table bed, forming a casing for the bed, so as to prevent any movement thereon. They are also secured by means of the bolts A A see Fig. 3. Posts G, G, support the table bed and are jOllled rlgidly together by means of the side and end members H, H, of the frame, which are inserted in slots 1, I in the posts, which are preferably hollow and are clamped thereto by means of bolts J, J, passing through slots K, K, in the frame members.
The frame members are recessed at L, L to interlock with the reinforcing strips O, C, so that the table bed is locked thereby from lateral movement.
In Fig. 5 the table bed is shown folded to form a shipping crate for the other portions of the device, and is provided with covers M, M, which are flanged at N, the flanges overlapping the sides of the bed portions.
hese covers can be hung on the wall of the billiard room and supplied with detachable shelves O, 0, upon which the balls P, P can be stored, and counters Q, Q, can be strung upon wires secured therein as shown in Fig. 8.
A padlock R and staples S can be employed to secure the edges of the table bed together to avoid opening the package while in transit from one place to another.
Having described the invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a collapsible billiard table, a sectional table bed, the said sections hinged together, marginal reinforcing strips upon the hinged edges, side rails detachably secured to said table bed, frame members upon; which said table bed rests, said frame members having recesses with which said reinforcing strips interlock, and posts to which the extremities of said frame members are detachably secured.
2. In a collapsible billiard table, a sectional table bed, the sections being hinged together, side rails detachably secured to for rigidly attaching said side rails to said table bed.
3. In a collapsible billiard table, a sec: tional table bed, the sections being hinged together, side rails detachably secured to said table bed, frame members upon which said table bed is mounted, and posts interlooking with said frame members, and means for rigidly attaching said side rails to said table bed, and means for rigidly attaching said frame members to said posts.
4. In a collapsible billiard table, a folding table bed, side rails detachably secured thereto, posts for supporting said table bed, frame members detachably secured to said Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the ing table bed, reinforcing strips upon the meeting edges of said folded bed, side rails overlapping the edges of said bed, and securing means therefor, frame members interlocking withsaid reinforcing means upon said bed, posts upon which said frame members are rigidly supported, said posts provided with openingsinto which said frame members are inserted.
In testimony whereof I hereuntoset my hand this 13thda'y off-April, 1 917.
