Description

'LLARRANCL lmprovement in Stump-Fullers.
NG. 126,817. Y PatentedM`y14,1872.
ISAAC LARRANOE, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
AIMPROVEMENT IN STUMP'PULLERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 126,817, dated May14, 1872.
SPEeiFIcATIoN.
To whom vvit may concern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC LARRANCE, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, in the State of Ohio, have invented anew, useful, and Improved Machine for raising Heavy Weights, Pulling Stumps, 85e.; and I hereby declare the following to be a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification.
The nature or essence of my invention consists in the particular construction and arrangement of devices forming an improved machine for raising heavy weights, pulling stumps, &c., described in the following specification, and represented in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is an elevation of one side, andFig. 2 of one end.
In the accompanying drawing, A A are two sills, and in each of these sills two standards or posts, C C, are fastened to support the bed D, the whole constituting a strong frame to4 stand over the weight to be lifted or the 'stump to be pulled. The block or bed D is hooped with iron at each end, and has two short mortises or one long mortise in the middle for the lifting and holding' barsF F to traverse through, which mortises are armed with iron both above and below the bed D. The
lifting-bars F F are provided with one, two, or more rows of holes for the pins I I, which are put through the holes in the bars alternately above the bed'D,to hold and pull up the stump as it is pulled up by the vibrating lever G and 'the bars J J and M M. To the lower ends of the bars F F I fasten the bars J J by the bolts K, which form the fulcruzns alternately for the bars J J, and I connect these bars by links or bars L L to the bars M M, as shown in the drawing. To the bars M M I fasten the hook N by the bolt P to hold the weight W, or the chain to be fastened to the stump to be pulled. By removing the links L L and bars M M, and fastening the hook N by puttingv the bolt P through the hole 2 in the bars J J, the links L L and bars M M may be dispensed with, and the machine worked by the lever.G over the bed D. By extending the bars J J or the bars M M in each direction, to form levers to work the machine, the lever G may be dispensed with.
The great advantage of my machine is that one of the pins on the bed D holds -up onehalf the weight, while the lever G raises the other half, and takes up the weight with half the power that would otherwise be required.
Having. described my improved machine, I claim- The combination and arrangement of the supporting bed D, lever G, (used either above or below the bed D,) lifting-barsF F, and plates J J, constructed and arranged to operate substantially as described.
