Specification of Letters Patent.
Fatenteol May 21, 191%.
Application filed may 31, 1917. Serial No. 171,860.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW B. FLAGG, a citizen of the United States, and resident of North Attleboro, in the county of Bristol and- State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ear Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
This inventlon relates to improvements in ear ornaments, and has for its object to proleasably connected to the ear clamp member.
Fig. 2 is a view showing the back plate of the perfume-medium-carrying receptacle.
Fig. 3- is a view showing the ornamental receptacle in the form of a so-called drop suspended from the ear clamp.
Referring to the drawings, l0.designa tes the ear clamp formed of a U-shaped WIIQ,
the upper end of the leg 11 of which is enlarged and threaded to receive the clamp screw 12 while the upper end of the opposite leg 13 is provided with an enlargement 14: against which the clamp screw binds the ear clamp. This member 14 is shown as being provided witha screw threaded stud 15.
A feature of my invention is the provision of an ornamental member 16 made hollow by forming a dome-shaped front member 17 and a cup-shaped back member 18. On the inner side of this front member I have secured a short inwardly extending boss 19 threaded on its interior, to receive the threaded end of the attaching screw 15 and I have perforated the back plate 18 as at 20 to permit the scent of the perfume to escape therethrough.
In practice I fill the outer shell with a perfume-carrying medium such as cotton or the which the scent of the like, then snap the back plate over the edge of the front plate and pass them both onto the post 15, and by rotating the receptacle I screw this post into the hub thereby performing two functions; first, I bind the back plate 18 onto the front plate 17 by forcin the shell against the enlargement 14C; secon this positioning action also secures the receptacle in position on the ear clamp.
The modification shown in Fig. 3 illustrates the so-called drop form of ear ornament which is suspended from the eye 28 on the ear clamp 29 by the ring 30. This drop 21 is also formed hollow and is made in two parts, the lower portion 22 being adapted to be separated from the upper portion on the line 23, and this lower portion is provided with a stud 24; threaded at its upper end through the cross bar 25 in the upper section, whereby the two portions are separably but securely connected together. The lower edge of the upper portion of this member is shown as provided with openings 26 through perfume-carrymg medium 27 may escape.
These receptacles may be made of any suitable material and in any shape or form and carry any desired ornamentation on their outer surfaces.
The foregoing description is directed solely toward the construction illustrated, but I desire it to be understood that I reserve the privilege of resorting to all the mechanical changes to which the device is susceptible, the invention being defined and limited only by the terms of the appended claim.
I claim:
In an ear attachment, an ear wire, means for releasably connecting said wire to the ear lobe, an ornamental receptacle made in two parts and adapted to carry a perfumed medium, the walls of said receptacle being perforated, means for securely connecting said parts together, and means for connecting said receptacle to said member.
n testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of a witness.
ANDREW B. FLAGG. -Witness:
HOWARD E. BARLOW.
