SHIRT.
Application filed January 30, 1918.
To all whom it may concern."
Be it known that l, CriAnLns M. CARR, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Diego, in the county of San Diego and State of California, have invented a new and useful Shirt.
My invention relates to improvements in shirts of the class to be worn by men who wear uiforms, and more particularly where, owing to the necessity of keeping coats or other parts of the dress tightly buttoned to the wearer, as few clothes as possible, in order to keep the wearer comfortable, are worn. The difliculty in keeping a collar in its proper position where tae individual does not wear a shirt over his underwear is very evident, and in warm climates a shirt worn in addition to the underwear and the uniform is very uncomfortable, hence, in order to provide a shirt that will serve to support a collar buttoned to it, and that will rest comfortably on the body of the wearer and will consist of a minimum of material, I have invented the garment shown in the accompanying drawings and described in the following specification.
In the drawings Figure l is a perspective view of my improved shirt, Fig. 2 is a front view of same on a wearer, and Fig. 3 is a rear view of same.
Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts throughout the different views in the drawings.
The shirt (4 consists of a neck-band 1, a breast portion 2, and a breast portion 3, a back portion t and a belt portion 5. The breast portion 2 is provided with a straight side along which, near the edge thereof, are disposed a number of buttons 6, which may be sewed on the portion 2 or may be inserted in button-holes in said portion for that purpose. The portion 3 is provided with a straight side similar to the straight side of portion 2, which is provided with buttonholes disposed near the edge thereof to accommodate the buttons 6 in portion 2. A circularly shaped opening 7 is provided at the dividing line between portions 2 and 3, to suit the size of the neck of the wearer and Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Apr. 16, 1918.
Serial No. 214;,d51.
the collar band 1 is sewed to the edge of the material around the opening 7. Each of the portions 2 and 3 is provided with an extended portion 8, which extends suliiciently from the band 1 to rest neatly on the chest, and shoulder near the neck of the wearer, and to be held in position by the vest or coat of the person wearing the shirt.
Each of the ends 10 of portions 2 and 3 is narrow and of a sutlicient length to reach well down on the chest of the wearer. The portion 11 of back portion 4 is of a suiiicient length to reach down to a point on the middle of the wearers back, so that the belt 5, which is mounted on the lower end of said portion. 11, when placed in proper position on the body of the wearer, will permit of its ends being placed on the buttons 12 and 13 mounted on the portions 10. The belt 5 is provided with button-holes l l disposed on the ends thereof so that the belt 5 can be adjusted to the size of the wearer. This belt 5 may be an extension of the portion 11, or it may be made of a separate piece of material, and be sewed on the lower end of portion 11.
The back portion l is made narrow at 15 so that it will rest between the shoulders of the wearer.
The neck-band 1 is provided with buttonholes 16 and 17, all of which are intended to contain ordinary collar buttons to which collars may be attached if desired.
What I claim is:
A shirt comprising a neck-band, a body member mounted on said neck-band and provided with two front portions, an eXtend- CHARLES M. CARR.
