Application inea Ai'gusi 14, 1915. serial noname.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE ll-INRYv WHEARY, a citizen of the vUnited States, and resident of Racine, in the county of Racine and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Trunk-Fixtures, of which the following is a descrip-- tion, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are a part of this speciiication.
This invention relates' to improvements in trunk xtures more particularly adapted for supporting garment hangers in wardrobe trunks. i
It is one of the objects of the present invention to provide a trunk xture inwhich the extensible ends thereof may beV adjusted outwardly to greater distances than is possible with the ordinary xtures now on the market, thus permitting the garment hangers mounted on the fixtures to be further separated for the more convenient removal of the garments therefrom.
A further obj ect of the invention is to 'provide a trunk fixture having extensible track portions arranged to withdraw the garment hangers and garments carried thereby fromthe trunk when the extensible .track portions are moved to extended position.
A further object of the invention isto provide a trunk xture having fixed and hinged extensible track portions in which the extensible track portions are automatically locked in hanger supporting position when the said extensible portions are moved to supporting position.
A further object of the invention is to provide a trunk fixture formed in part of telescoping arms which are automatically locked to other portions of the fixture when moved to closed position. 'I
A further object of the invention is to provide a trunk xture which is of simple construction, is strong and durable and is well adapted for the purpose described.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of the improved trunk xture and' its parts-and combinations as set forth in the claims and all equivalents thereof.
In the accompanying `drawing in which the same reference characters indicate the same parts in all of the views:
Figure 1 is a horizontal sectional view` of la wardrobe trunk section provided with the improved trunk fixture;
`on line 11-11 of Fig. 10.v
' Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view thereof `taken on line 2 2 vof Fig. 1, with the extensible track portion shown in partly eX- tended position; l
Fig. 3 is a similar view thereof showing the extensible track portion swung downwardly in closed position, portions of theV track members being shown in section;
Fig. 1 is a transverse sectional view of one of the track members taken on line 1f-4 of Fig. l; Fig. 5 is a horizontal sectional view of a modified form of trunk fixture;
Fig. 6 is a vertical sectional view thereof taken on line 6-*6 of Fig. 5;
Fig. 7 is a sectional detail view of aportion ofwone'of'the track members; j j
Fig. '8 is a transverse sectional detail view taken on line 8,-8` of Fig. 6; o f .Y
Fig. 9 is a sectional detail view taken on line 9--9vof Fig. 5;
Fig. 10 is a horizontal sectional view of a trunk provided with another modified form of trunklixture; and
Fig. 11 is a vertical sectional view taken Referring to the drawings the numeral 15 'indicates a trunk body, 16 the drawer section and 17 the wardrobesection in which the improved ixture 18 is mounted. The fixture 18 comprises'a U-shaped band 19 which is fastened within the upper portion of the wardrobe section and has rigidly connected thereto fixed track members 20. These fixed tracks project forwardly from the rear portion of the band and at their forward end portions are connected to the side portions of the band by U-shaped brackets 21 which curve downwardly? and upwardly from the tracks to the band to provide clearance for the garment hangers 22 mounted on' the tracks. The 'fixed tracks are parallel to each other and are located adjacent the opposite sides of the wardrobe section and at. their forward ends have the inner ends of the extension tracks 23 hinged thereto. In theA form shown in Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive, the extensionbars swing downwardly to closed positions while in the modified forms, shown in Figs. 5 to 11 inclusive, the extension bars swing horizontally to open or closed positions.
In the first mentioned form the track membersare provided with extensible track tube sectionsl 24 Vand 24.- which are slidably mounted on the track members and may be incident with thehinge vconnections of the track rods when the tube sect-ionsy are 'in closed position and may be foldedfwith said rod sections, andin folding the shouldered tongues will swingout of the shouldered recesses, 'as shown in Figs. l and 3. In 'order topermit the tube sections being slid out- 'wardly on the track rods, the inner tube sections 24 are provided on their lowersides with longitudinally extending slots 27 to accommodateithe curved brackets 2l.; These slotted portions in connection with" the brackets serve' to prevent ythe tubes turning on the rods and the shoulders 28 formedby the inner'ends ofthe slots 27' limit the`outward movement of said tubes.k Y
The outer ends of the outer tube sections vand the inner'ends ofthe inner tube sec! tions have annular flanges 0r"should`ers"29 Y and Q9 formed' thereon to prevent the garment hangers from i accidentally sliding: off the tubes and also to' withdraw the hangers and garments"'draped` thereon 'from the trunk section when'tlie said tubes are pulled outwardly. When the said'tubes are pulled outwardly Ythe inner'tubes ofk eaclrsection -Wnl'inciose the' 'hinge joints 0f the Tack f rods and lockthev same in. Vopen position and the A'extension track rods which 'extend' partly through both tube sections will lock' the sections together in lopen extended position.VV
In order to prevent 'the outer tube sections from accidentally sliding 'ofi the extension track rods when in folded 'or closedV po- I sitions, the said extension rods are provided with Vprojecting shouldered Ispring membersL 301 'which snap' over the outer ends ofthe outer tube sections when said tube sections yare "pushed 'inwardly to closed positions.
The tubes are easily released by pressing in-V Wardly'on'the projecting shouldered portions vof the springs when it is ldesired to extend the tubular tracks.
n In the modifiedformshown in Figs. 5 to 9 inclusive, thelextensible tracks 31 andthe tubes 32 area'rranged to'swinghori'zontally toop'enA or closed lposition and invlieu ofthe tongu'eand recess connection the"adjacent kends ofthe tubes on each track overlap leach` other andare hingedly connected:together as indicsttedA by the. numeral These hinge connections are alsor in alinementwith the hinge jointsv of the track portionsfwhen thetube lportions aretin their innermost positions, to permit the folding of said mem- Y bers.
"In the last mentioned form the outer ends ofthe tubes, when in folded position, are locked together by means of an angular tongue 34, formed on one of the tube ends, which enters Lan `opening 35 provided with Vthe other tube rend.
'elongated slotsy 34 and'pins 8,5" Yextending through the slots and entering the'v extensible tracks" 31' serve to' limit the'loutward move- 'inent'of said tubes."
From the foregoing description it` will be. seenthat the trunk fixture is of very simple construction and yis/w'ell adapted for the purpose described. Y
Vhat I Claim as my invention is j l.
