OFFIQE.
ANDERS R. HAGSTROM, 0F WATAGA, ILLINOIS.
FEED-BOX.
T '0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANnERs R. HAGSTROM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wataga, in the county of Knox, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Feed-Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in feed boxes and more particularly to an angle iron bracket for supporting the box and adapting it to be moved from place to place.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of such a feed box which is simple and inexpensive in construction and which may be easily assembled.
A further object of the invention is the construction of such a device which may be sold and shipped in knocked-down form and then assembled by, the purchaser.
With these and other objects in view the invention consist in the novel details of construction and arrangement of parts which will be more clearly understood from the following description and drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a fragmentary ide elevation of the feed box.
Fig. 2 is an end view of the feed box.
Fig. 3 is a perspective detail of the end strip.
Fig. 4 i a perspective detail showing the angle iron bracket or runner adapted to be used with this invention.
Fig. 5 is a modified form of the bracket or runner, and
Fig. 6 is a vertical transverse section through the frame of the box.
In carrying out the preferred embodiment of the invention I provide the angle iron brackets or runners 13, the lower ends of which are curved, as at 14, thereby forming runners, and the upper end is bent at an angle, as indicated at 15. Secured to the lower ends of the brackets are the longitudinal strips 16 and ecured to the angle extensions 15 are the longitudinal strips 17. The angle iron brackets or runners at each end of the box are connected by means of the angle iron strips 6 secured thereto either by nuts and bolts or rivets as desired. The strips 6 are provided with the longitudinal extensions 7 and the vertical tongues or right angle extension 8, the extensions 7 engaging the front of the angle iron brackets or runners 13 and the tongues or extensions Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed March 30, 1915. Serial No. 18,072.
8 engaging the sides of said brackets or runners. The construction of the strips may be more clearly seen in Fig. 4 of the drawings. The brackets or runners at each end of the boxes are further connected by means of the strips 9 which are preferably crossed, as shown, and connected at the cross point by means of the rivet or bolt 10. The particular form of angle iron bracket or runner 13 is clearly shown in Fig. 5 of the drawings.
A bracket 16 having books on each end is secured between the strips 16 by means of the hooks passing over the top of the strips and longitudinal strips 17 are received-on the bracket and form a platform therefor. Slats 18 rest against the longitudinal strips 17 and upon strips 17, as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, and may be connected or held in any suitable manner.
The angle iron bracket or runner preferably used in the invention is preferably constructed of a single strip bent in the form shown, but if desired it may be constructed as shown in Fig. 5 of the drawings. In Fig. '5 of the drawings, 19 indicates the bracket or runner curved at the lower end as indicated at 20 and having the extension 22 secured to the extension 21 by means of bolts and nuts or rivets.
In the drawings I have shown an invention in which slats or bars are used forv forming the feed box but it is to be understood that the box may be formed in any other desired manner, although this form of box is of particular advantage in feeding hay or like material.
Having described the detailed construction of my invention it is thought that the advantages will be clearly understood. I have provided a feed box which when assembled may be moved from place to place, the lower end of the brackets being curved to form runner whereby the box may be easily drawn across the ground. I have also provided a box which may be sold in its asembled position or which may be sold inknocked-down form and assembled by the purchaser. The box i strong in construction being reinforced and braced by the various strips and is inexpensive in construction.
Having fully described the invention what an angle thereto and a support including a plurality of runners consisting of vertical strips having their lower ends curved and upper ends formed with portions extendlng at an angle thereto and in transverse direction to the curved lower ends providing means for maintaining the longitudinal strips in position.
2. A feed box comprising runners con sisting of vertical strips having their lower ends curved and the upper ends formed with angle extensions, means connecting the curved ends, means connecting the strips, means connecting the angle extensions, slats, and a slat supporting platform carried by the first said means.
3. A feed box comprisingrunners consisting of vertical strips havin the lower ends curved and the upper ends iorrned with angle extensions, transverse strips connecting the angle extensions and curved lower ends respectively, longitudinal strips connected to the curved lower ends, longitudi nal strips connected to the extensions, brackets carried by the first said longitudinal strips, bracket bars connecting the brackets, longitudinal bars carried by the bracket bars, and slats supported by the transverse and longitudinal strips connecting the extensions.
t. A feed box comprising runners consisting or vertical strips having the lower end curved and the upper end formed with an angle extension, transverse and longitudinal strips connected to said curved lower ends and angle extensions, means connecting the longitudinal strips connecting the curved ends, means carried by said connecting means, and slats supported upon said longi-' tudinal strips andvsaid second means.
5. A feed box comprising runners consisting of vertical strips having their lower ends curved, longitudinal strips connecting the upper ends of the runners and the curved ends, transverse bars connecting the upper ends of the runners and the curved ends, cross members connecting the upper and lower transverse bars, slats, and a slat supporting platform carried by a means supported by the lower longitudinal strips.
In testimony whereof lt aliix my signature in presence or" two witnesses.
