Description

R. L. S. DOGGETT.
VARNISH 0R COLOR CUP..
APPUCATION man 1uLv2'6. 1917.
Patented Feb. 12, 1918.
"cipal object the for the wipings REGINALD L. S. IDOGGET'I, OF EAST ORANGE, NEW JERSEY.
VAIRNISH 0R COLOR CUP.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that REGINALD L. S. Doc- GETT, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of East Orange, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Varnish or Color Cups, of which the following is a specification.
his invention relates to improvementsin varnish or color cups, and has for its prinprovision of a simple and inexpensive device forming a holder for varnish or color containers and from brushes used in applying the contents of the containers carried in the holder.
A further object of the invention is to provide a receptacle for brush wipings which may be readily cleaned, and which is adapted to form a holder or support for cans, containers, or receptacles of varnishes, paints, or the like.
11 the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a combined container holder and wiping receptacle, with avarnish or color container supported therein;
Fig. 2 is a similar view with the varnish or color container removed;
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional View of the holder showing a container supported there in; and
Fig. 4 is a top plan view of the holder with the container removed.
In the embodiment of the invention shown in the drawings the combined container holder and wiping receptacle is formed with a substantially rectangular body portion having side walls 1, a rear wall 2, and a front wall 3.
ody part 1 forms a well or receptacle 4 for the brush wipings. The side walls 1 are formedwith ledges or inwardly projecting portions 5, forming shoulders below the upper edges of the side walls 1 adapted to form seats or supports for the bottom of a varnish or color container 7. The front wall 3 of the body portion of the holder is cut away, as shown at 8, in Figs. 2 and 4. from its upper edge to a point below the shoulders or seats 6 on the upper sides of the ledges or projecting portions 5. A spout or chute for the brush wipings is held to the front wall 3 and comprises an upwardly and outwardly extending front wall 9, extending from the lower edge of the cut-away portion 8 of the front wall 3 Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed July 26, 1917.
The lower portion of the 6, at a point Patented Feb. 12, 1913. Serial No. 182,841.
to a point above of the varnish or color container 7. The u wardly and outwardly extending wall 9 of the wiping spout or chute is connected with the vertical edges of the cut-away portions wall 3 by side walls 10, the upper edges of which are preferably curved inwardly and downwardly from the straight wiping edge 11 of the spout wall 9 to the upper edge of the front wall 3.
handle 12 is rigidly held to the rear wall 2 of the body portion of the holder. The handle 12 is the fingers of the hand of the user passed through the handle, or to be carried with the bottom of the holder resting on the palm of the hand with the thumb passed through the handle 12, as may be desired.
While the body portion 1 of the container has been shown of substantially rectangular form, it will be obvious that the body ortion may be formed of substantially c lindrical or other shape to adapt the holder to receive containers of various shapes. It will also be obvious that any suitable means may be employed for supporting the bottom of to the walls or bottom of the b From the foregoing it will be observed that original containers of varnishes, paints, etc. be placed in the holder and the contents thereof used of the materials. It will also be observed that when the contents of the container have been used the container may be discarded and a new container substituted, thus avoiding the necessity of cleaning a varnish cup bucket, and the liability oi contaminating a resh supply of varnish or paint by successive use of the same container. It will also be seen that the combined holder and wiping receptacle may be employed to hold containers formed of cardboard, paper, or similar materials, which containers may be discarded after being once used.
'By extending the spout or chute for the wipings from a point below the bottom of the container to a point above the level of the the level of the upper edge 7 for the wipings for upper edge of the container; it will be seen that the brush ,ed across the may be wip upper edge of the-spoutwithout danger of the wipings falling back into the container,.
will also be observed that the spout or chute and may therefore entirely open at one side be readily cleaned. lVhat I claim is,:- V 1; A device of the class described-,7 comprising a body portion having a wiping-receiving well at its lower end and formed for the wipings is withinteriorly arranged shoulders adapted tosupport acontainer above said well, one wall of: said body portion being formed -Witll anopening extending irom its upper edge to a'point'below said shoulders, and a :spou't held to said wall and extending upwardly from-the loweredge of said opening, said spout being formed with an open side fiopiesi of.v this a patent may be obtained to prising the well 4 beneath the conportion of the of the :to. said a holder.
