To all whom it may concern:
JOHN HUGLER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA. v
FIGURE WHEELED TOY.
Be it known that I, JOHN HUGLER, a citizen of Switzerland, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in FigureWheeled Toys, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in toys, the object of the invention being to provide a wheeled toy, which supports a rotary basket or similar receptacle containing dolls or other figures, and which is supported on rollers and caused to revolve by means of a friction wheel secured to" turn with the axle -;of the toy.
A further object is to provide a'toy of the character stated, which is neat and ornamental in appearance, which can be manufactured and sold at a reasonably low price, and which.will be strong and durable in use.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a top plan view illustrating my improved toy, and for clearness omitting the figures from the basket. Fig. 2 is a view in transverse section on the line 22 of Fig. 1, the basket and the figures therein being shownin elevation.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view in section on the line 33 of Fig. 1, the base of the basketil and the roller being shown in elevation, an
Fig. 4 is a view in longitudinal section on the line 44 of Fig. 1.
1 represents a platform having bearing brackets 2 secured to its lower face at its sides, and in which bearing brackets, a relatively large axle 3 is mounted to turn. The
ends of the axle 3 are reduced as shown at 4, and are secured in any approved manner within wheels 5, said wheels being adapted to run along the ground and revolve the axle.
6 represents a basket having a relatively heavy base 7 which is preferably circular in form and which is secured by a bolt 8 to platform 1 The bolt 8 is secured centrally in base 7, has rotary mounting in an opening 9 in platform 1, and on its lower screwthreaded end is provided with a nut 10 and Specification of Letters Patent.

j the necessary adjustment as will more fully hereinafter appear.
A friction wheel 12, preferably having a friction surface 13, is secured to the axle 3,
'- projects through a slot 1 1 in platform 1 and bears against the underface of, base 7. Platform 1 is provided with a plurality, preferably two, of recesses 15 in its upper face, and in these recesses brackets 17 are secured by screws 18, the brackets 17 supporting rollers 18*, and these rollers are located radially with relation to the bolt 8 so that they cooperate with the friction wheel 12 in supporting the base 7 elevated above platform 1.
By adjusting the nut 10, the base 7 can be drawn down upon rollers 18 and friction wheel 12 with suflicient pressure to insure the proper action, and by providing a plurality ofrotary supports for the base 7, the
basket is held in a horizontal position without wabbling, and can be easily revolved.
In the basket 6, 1 preferably locate dolls or other figures 19 which are secured in any approved manner, and which add materially to the attractiveness of the toy. A handle 20 is secured to one end of platform 1, and is adapted to be utilized as a pulling or pushing means to move the toy over the ground.
Various slight changes may be made in the general form and arrangement of parts described without departing from my invention and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairlyfall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: I p
1. A toy of the character stated, compris ing a platform having an opening and a longitudinal slot therein, a receptacle, a bolt secured to the receptacle and extending through the opening in the platform, an axle below the platform, wheels secured to and supporting the axle, a friction wheel on the axle projecting through the slot in the platform and engaging the underface of the receptacle at one side of the bolt, rollers radially arranged relative to the bolt, said rollers projecting above the surface of the platform the same distance as the friction wheel and cooperating with the friction Wheel to support the receptacle in a horizontal position, and a nut on said boltbelow the platform permitting adjustment of the receptacle against the friction wheel and the said rollers.
2. A toy of the character stated, comprising a platform having an opening and a slot therein, said platform having a plurality of radial recesses in its upper face, brackets secured in the recesses, rollers supported by the brackets, an axle supporting the platform, wheels secured to and supporting the axle, a friction wheel secured to the axle extending through the slot in the platform, said rollers and friction wheel extending the mas a e mitting adjustment of the receptacle verti-e cally relative to the rollers and the friction wheel. y
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN HUGLER. Witnesses ELEANOR F. MURRAY, WILLIAM CONWAY.
