To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN C. Zwcann, residing at Wichita Falls, in the county of Wichita and State of Texas. have invented a new and Improved Gas-Burning Stove. of which the following is a specification.
This invention contemplates certain improvcments in that class of stoves more particularly designed for using natural or artificial gas as a fuel and it primarily has for its object to provide a simple and effective means for the utilization of gaseous fuel to the very best of advantage and particularly for effecting a practically perfect intermixing of the oxygen of the air with the carbon, to provide, as it were, for a perfcct union of the air and gas for the purpose of producing complete combustion.
With other Ob ects in view that will hereinafter appear, my invention, in its generic nature, comprehends an im roved type of stove in which is include an improved construction of the internal or,combustion., chamber and so designed whereby to extract the heat units from the gaseous fuel under the most advantageous conditions and also to retard the escape of the same in an eflicient manner.
My invention consists in the improved construction and novel arran ment of the parts hereinafter describe specifically pointed out in the appended claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Fig. 5 is a perspective view that illustrates a preferred arran ement of the mixer, the fuel pipe, and the urner.
In the accompanying drawings, I have illustrated a preferred deal of an outer drum or casing and a radiator connected therewith, but I desire it understood that the internal construction, the air duct or funnel, and the burner, may be readily modified to suit other shapes of stoves, cval, rectangular or otherwise, without departing from my invention.
In the present showing of my invention,
the drum or outer casing l, which is an open bottom one and made of any heat radiating metal, is mounted on a cast metal base 2 having legs 3. 4 designates a top or hood that is mounted upon and is attached to the top of the drum 1 in any approved manner. The drum 1 has an opening 6 at the upper or lire chamber portion, normally held closed by a. door 7 of suitable shape.
8 designates what I term an air funnel or tube and it is also of any suitable heat radiating metal. The lower or base end of the funnel 8 terminates in an annular rim 9 and it is of a diameter to snugly fit inside of the drum and to en nge the said open bottom drum and be fastened thereto, in any suitable manner, to provide a perfectly air-tight joint. The upper or Small end of the funnel 8 extends to near the top of the drum 1, it terminating just below a burner 11 that is located between the upper end of the funnel 8 and immediately under the stove top. The opening in the restricted end of the air funnel and the space between it and the burner being ample to admit a su ply of air for proper combustion.
he burner 11, in the present showing of my invention. is of the horizontal disk type, provided with outlets or jet openings 19 in its periphery. Burner 11 is of suiliciont diameter to extend over the outlet 13 from the funnel 8 whereby to serve as a balile against which the induced air currents are directed (see arrows on Fig. 2). and caused to thoroughly spread to intcrmix with the flames that discharge from the burner. Burner 11 is mounted on a feed pipe 9 that extends up through'the funnel and which also passes down and extends laterally from under the stove and connects with a mixer 14 of anv approved type.
The drum 1 has an outlet 14" and the said outlet, which is located at the bottom of the drum, forms a passage into a radiator 15, consisting of a rectangular chamber that extends vertically at one side of the drum and includes a cover 16 having a collar 17 to receive a pipe 18 of proper diameter and length to create the necessary draft to establish a circulation of air through the combustion chamber.
From the foregoing taken in connection with the drawings, the complete construction of my improved type of stove will be readily apparent. The manner in which it operates and its advantages are best explained as follows: The draft created by the Stovepipe attached to the radiator 15 produces a strong induction of air through the funnel comin in direct contact with the flame at the urner, thus supplying additional oxygen to unite with the unconsuined gases at that point. The burner being of a slightly smaller diameter than the outer casing. the burner flame impinges against the casing and spreads into a solid sheet of llame around the entire casing as it is drawn downward by the draft or suction toward the exit LP. By reason of the manner in which the funnel 8 is mounted within the drum 1. so soon as the heat is developed within the stove, the funnel \varms u and begins to radiate heat, and immediate y begins to warm the air that passes u throu h it in proportion to the amount oi heat eveloped within the stove, thus delivering nothing but heated air within the stove and thereby supplying oxygen to the burner under the most favorable conditions. Furthermore. as the mixing tube also soon becomes heated. the temperature of the air and gas mssing throu h it is correspondingly raised. iiy reason ol the peculiar construction of the internal arrangement of my improved stove, none of the products of combustion.
entering the stove can lower the temperature already developed within the said chamber since the said products having been previously heated, such arrangement of parts, insuring, a combustion of the fuel under most favorable conditions and the creating of an intensely hot and perfectly blue flame. As the passage to the radiator 15 is located at the extreme lower end of the drum 1, and at the most restricted part of the combustion chamber of the stove, a maximum amount of heat units is developed from the burning gases before the said gases escape into the radiator and as the burner is located at the top of the combustion chamber and directly above the funnel 8, it follows that the air column is discharged against the burner in a manner that insures a quick and effective warming up of the said air column, and as the combustion chamber is of gradually reducing area from the burner downwardly to the outlet to the radiator, the flame and heated air is drawn from the burner and is caused to rush downwardly toward the exit to the radiator and at the same time is forced against the outer casing or stove drum 1 and against the air funnel 8, thereby causing the drum and the funnel to radiate considerable heat. The bulk of the hot air not thrown 011' by the stove into the surrounding space, passes into the said radiator, and as the outlet from the said radiator is a restricted one, much of the heat that mi ht otherwise he lost, is retained there anti made to radiate into the room. Another feature of my present invention is that as the air fed to the burner through the funnel 8 is drawn up from near the floor, where air is the coldest, a more rapid inflow of air into the stove, and a more uniform circulation is established throughout the room.
What I claim is:
In a gas stove, an outer casing having a closed top, a door in the upper end of said outer casing, an inner casing of funnel shape having its lower or base end open and secured to the lower inner edge of the outer casing, a burner located within the outer casing above the top of the inner casing and adjacent to the top of the inner casing and forming a baffle for the upper or discharge end of said inner casing, means for supporting the lower end of the outer casing and said funnel shaped casing above the floor, a fuel feed pipe that extends through the funnel sha )ed casing and joins with the burner, an an off-take that opens into the lower end of the outer casin JOHN ZIEGLER.
