DISPLAY-RAGK FOR WALL-PAPER AND OTHER MERCHANDISE.
Specification of Letters latent.
Application filed June 26,1913. Serial No. 775,980.
7 '0 all whom. it may concern:
Be it known that I, SIDNEY L. RALPH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Abilene, in the county of Taylor and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Display-Rack for Wall Paper and other Merchandise, of which the following is a specification.
The device this application is a adapted to be employed paper and hangings.
One object of the present invention is to rovide a device of the class described, in which both the wall paper and the ceiling paper may be exposed to advantage.
Another object of the invention is to provide novel means for mounting in place the display members whereon the wall paper is carried.
It is within the scope of the invention to improve generally and to enhance the utility of, devices of that type to which the pres ent invention appertains.
With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the'invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the preciseembodiment ot the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing trom the spirit of the invention. In the drawings :Figure 1 shows the in vention in perspective, parts being broken away. Fig.9. is a side elevation of one of the corner caps which are carried by the pivotally mounted display forming the subject matter of display structure, for exhibiting wall members; Fig3 is a section through one corner cap on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.;F1g. l 1s a longitudmal section through one corner cap; Fig. 5 is a longitudinal section through the corner cap which is assembled with the lower corner of the display member; Fig. 6 is a longitudinal section showing a modified form of corner cap; Figs. 7 and 8 are elevations of screws which are employed in connection with that form of corner cap depicted in Fig. 6; Fig. 9 is a transverse section of the supporting bar which is connected with the lower portion of the cabinet; Fig. 10 is a transverse section of the bar which is connected with the cabinet, the bars shown in Figs. 9 and 10 constituting the means whereby the display members are I movably and pivotally connected to the cabinet. Fig. 11 a transverse section of one display member; and Fig. 19. is a fragmental transrersesection of the upper portion of the cabinet. 1 a
. In. carrying out the invention there is provided a cabinet 1 which may be of any desired form. Since the cabinet 1 will Vary in construction, in accordance with, the tastes of the user, the cabinet neednot be described in great detail. however, preferably comprises a hollow to :2 equipped in its interior with longitudina side supports 3, of plates or bars projecting inwardly into the interior of the top 2. The top isequipped with end supports 1 and with an intermediate support 5, the supports 4; and 5 prefer ably being in the form of bars extended transversely of the side supports 3. Mounted removably upon the supporting structure above described, and located within the contour of the hollow top 2 of the cabinet 1 are panels 6 which; preferably are fashioned from pulp-board. To these panels b may be secured sections oi? paper which are adapted to cover the ceiling of a room.
The cabinet 1 includes abase 7 which may be of any form, the base being con nected with the top 2 in any desired manner. In the present instance, referred to are connected by means oi an endfwall 8 and by means oi? posts 9, the top 9. and the base 7 being united at the rear of the cabinet. by braces 10 in the present inrelation. A. bar 11 is secured to the hollow top 2 adjacent the-rear of the cabinet, the edges oi the bar 11 being beveled as indicated at 12. The bar 11 is provided with a plurality of openings 14: in which thiinbles 15 are held. A bar 16 is seemed to the base 7. in vertical alinement with the bar 11, the longitudinal edges of the bar 16 being bev eled as had ated at 1T. In the lower face of the bar 16 there is formed a channel. 18 shown most clearly in Fig. 9, and in the channel 18 is disposed. a metal thrust strip 19. In the upper face of the bar 16 there are a plurality oi openings 20, the openings EO being alined vertically. with the openings 1a in the bar 11. The lower ends of the openings 20 are closed by the thrust strip 19.
The invention further includes a plurality of display members 21, shown in position Patented Nov. 10, 1914.
The cabinet 1,
preferably taking the torm' the elements above stance shown as disposed in intersecting.
' panel 24 in Fig. 1, one of the display members being depicted in cross section in Fig. 11. Each display member 21 comprises a frame 22, channeled upon its inner edge as indicated at 23 to receive the edge of a panel 21 which ordinarily is made of pulp-board. To the may be attached in any suitable manner, strips of paper adapted to cover the side walls of a room.
The rear upper and lower corners of the display members 21 are pivotally connected with the cabinet 1, and this construction may be'carriedout in a variety of ways. In the present instance, corner caps 25 are provided, each cap 25 comprising a back 26,
side. Walls 27 and an end Wall 28. Projecting from the'end wall 28 and in the present instance formed integrally therewith is a pin'29. One'of the corner caps 25 as above described and as shown in F igs. 2, 3 and 4 is" mounted upon the upper rear corner of each display member 21, the pin 29 entering one ofthe thimbles 15 of the bar 12. There are holes 31 in the side walls 27 of the corner caps 25, whereby through the medium of suitable securing elements, the corner ca sma be held in place upon the display members 21. The corner cap shown in Fig. 5 is mounted upon the lower rear corner of each display member 21. The corner cap shown in Iig. 5 does not differ in construction from the corner cap hereinbefore described, saving for the fact that the pin 29 i of the lower corner cap is shorter than the pin 29'of the upper corner cap, the pin 29 being journaled in one of the openings 20 of the lower bar 16, the strip 19'receiving the lower end of the pin 29 and constituting a thrust bearing therefor. Owing to the fact that the pin 29 is shorter than the pin 29, any display member 21 may be raised up until the pin 29 'no longer lies in the opening 20. Thereupon, the display member 21 may be removed readily from the cabinet.
In Fig. 6 a slight modification in the corner cap is shown, the corner cap being denoted by the numeral 32. In the end Wall 33 of the corner cap there is an opening 3 adapted to receive a threaded pin 35 which may be screwed into the upper edge of the display member 21, the threaded portion of the pin being indicated by the reference character 36. The smooth portion of the lower in 37 is shorter than the smooth portiono the upper pin 35, for a purpose which has been set forth hereinbefore, in connection with the pins 29 and 29*.
From the foregoing it will be seen that is enabled any desired ceiling panel 6 may be mounted in place upon the supported structures The display members 21 may be swung upon their pivotalmountings 2929, so that any desired display member, or any pair of display members may be brought into cooperation with one of the ceiling panels 6. Thus, the purchaser, at a glance to note the elfect produced by any desired ceiling paper and by any desiredwall papers. There may be any chosen number of the display members 21,- and as hereinbefore pointed out, they may be readily shifted'from place to place within the cabinet.
It'is obvious that the structure herein disclosed may be employed for displaying merchandise other than wall paper. Under such circumstances, any suitable suspending means for the articles displayed may be employed.
, Having thus described the invention, what isclaimed is 1. In a device of the class described, a
posed display panel mounted in the cabinet in close relation with the horizontallydis posed panel, one of said cooperating elements being remoi able and the other of said cooperating elements being duplicated, the duplicated elements being movable with respect to each other and being movable with respect to the removable element.
2. In a device of the class described, a cabinet; a movably mounted horizontally disposed display. member carried by the cabinet: and a plurality of vertically disposed display members carried by the cabinet and located in close relation to the horizontally disposed display member, the horizontal and vertical display members cooperating to set forth for inspection, and in their normal positions, house decorations which normally stand in the horizontal and vertical positions assumed by the display members, the vertically disposed members being individually movable for successive cooperation with the horizontally disposed member.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
