BOX-LID HOLDER.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FRANK llus'ron, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lewis, in the county of Edwards and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Box-Lid Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to box lid holders and more particularly to combined lid holders, box openers, seal scrapers and nail extractors.

The object of the invention is to provide a simple and efficient device constructed ontirely of one piece of material and arranged so as to provide means for destroying the seal, opening and extracting the nails ot' cigar boxes and supporting the lids in open position.

Further objects of the invention will appear as the following description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing. which forms a part of this application, and in which Figure l is a perspective view showing the device applied to a cigar box as a lid holder. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the device removed from the box. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a modified form.

Referring more particularly to the drawing, 1 represents the body oi the device which is taperednpon its rear side toward one end, as shown at 2, so as to provide a thin edge which is sharpened, as at 3, where by the tapered end is readily adapted lor destroying the seal on a cigar box and for entering beneath the lid so that it may be prized open. A notch l is TEUI'IIlGd in one side which extends from front to back and is arranged to receive and extract a nail from the lid of the box. Formed in one side of the body at right angles to the recess (3 is a longitudinal groove or recess S) which opens at its lower end onto the front and is arranged to receive the lid 10 of the box, as shown in Fig. 1.

By providing a tool of this character the packed box may have its seal destroyed by the use of the edge 3 and the lid prized open by the tapered end. The nail may then be extracted by engaging the same in the notch and using the chisel end of the device as a fulcrum. After the box has been opened and the lid turned into vertical position the device may be engaged with the lower edge of the lid and with the side, as shown in Fig. 1.

In the modified form shown in Fig. 3 the upper end of the body is tilted at an angle to the lower end so that when the device is applied to a box the lid will be inclined rcar wardly, as will be readily understood.

What is claimed is A. device of the class described comprising an elongated body tapered at one end from one side only, and an enlargement 'lori'ned at the other end of the body and at the opposite side from the tapering portion. said enlargement having a notch or recess in the lower end thereof, said body having a longitudinal groove arranged upon the side oi the body at right angles to the notch or recess, said groove opening at its bottom immediately below the enlargement and at the side of the device adjacent the recess.
