NON-REFILL'ABLE BOTTLE.
APPLICATION FILED DEC.I2, 1913.
Patented Feb. 8,1916.
THE COLUMBIA PLANoaRAPH c0" WASHINGTON, D. c.
To-a'll whom it may com-em.- I I Be 1t known that I, HARRY W001), a citizen of the United States, residing at Nutley, in
the county of Essexan'd State of New Jersey, have lnvented "certa n new and useful Improvements in Non-Refillable Bottles; and 'Ido herebydeclare the 'followingto be a'ifull, clear and exact description of the, invent1on, such "as Wlll enable others skilled 1n the art to which itappertains .to make'and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements bottles and hasparticular reference to that class of bottles known as non-fillableI An important object of my invention is to provide a bottle ofthecharacterfdescribed which includes means arranged the. neck I of the'bottle and designed to permit the dis;
charge of the contents from the ibottle and at the same time act to prevent refilling the bottle. I I I I Another important object of the invention f is to provide "a bottle or the character jde scribed which is simple "as; to: construction,
reliable and eilicient operationnnd' may be cheaply manufactured;
The above and'addit nal objects are. ac
' complished by such means as fare illustrated particularl in the accompanying drawings, described in the following specification and then more y pointed out inthe claim which is appended hereto and forms a partjoffthis application. f if] With reference to the drawingsfwherein I have illustrated the preferred embodiment of my invention as it is reduced to practice, and throughoutthe several views of which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts: through he neck top plan view of the guard member: forming a part of the invention, Fig; 8 is a side elevation of the guard member, and Fig. 4 is a for securing the device to a, bottle neck.
Referring to the drawings forming a part of this specification and in whichtlike nu merals areemployed to designate corresponding parts, the numeral l designates as v an entirety a bottle having a short reduced neck 2 which is flanged peripherally upon its upper edge to produce a shoulder3 for. a purpose which will be later more :Eully V lindrical projection 19.

The liquid will readily escape from the bottle when it is tilted so that the valve 9'moves from its seat 8, through the openings in the seat 8, between the edge of the circular body portion of the member 9 and inner face of the neck 4 and through the reduced portion 18 of the neck 4. The arrangement of'the frusto conicalinner face 15 of the body portion of the guard member 14 facilitates the seating of the valve.9 when the bottle is tilted only slightly but does not interfere with the unseating of the valve 9 when an appreciabletilt is given the bottle;
"It will be apparent with reference to theforegoing description and accompanying drawings that there has been provided a' non-refillable bottle which is capable of perfoiuning all functions hereinbefore described in a. reliable, efiicient and expeditious manner. Further the device maybe quickly secured 'to the bottle and is held against'removal thus preventing the refilling of the bottle. In reduction to practical have found that the form of my invention, illustrated in the drawings and referred to in the above description, as the preferred embodiment is themost eflicient and practical; yet real izing that the conditions concurrent with the adoption of my device will necessarily Vary, I desire to emphasize the fact that various minor changes in details of con struction, proportion and arrangement of parts may be resorted to, when required, without sacrificing any of the advantages of my invention, as defined in the appended claim.' I
What is claimed is A non-refillable bottle comprising the combination with the neck of a bottle having a flange formed thereon, of a cylindrical neck member, said cylindrical member having one end enlarged andprovided with an internal angular recess adapted to fit down on the flange of the neck of the bottle, an annular shoulder formed interiorly of the cylindrical neck member adjacent its upper openend, a valve seat upon the outer end of said bottle, a valve positioned upon said valve seat, a weight resting upon said valve, a guard member comprising a body portion of circular contour and pro vided with an inverted frusto-conical engaging head and having a plurality of spaced le s connected to and extending downwardly therefrom adapted to rest upon said valve seatto limit the outward movement of said weight and prevent the bottle from being. refilled after once being emptied, the upper interior shoulder of the cylindrical member limitingv the outward movement of said guard member when said bottle isheld in a tilted position;
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
