Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
IMPROVEMENT IN MEDICAL COMPOUNDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 116,875, dated July 11, 1871.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, ALBERT F. SHANNON, of the city of Quincy, in the county of Adams and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Medical Compounds, of which the following is a specification:
The invention relates to that class of medical compounds employedin the treatment of diseases of the generative organs, and is also used as a tonic.
The invention is a fluid compound consisting of the following ingredients commingled in about the following relative proportions: Alcohol, one (1) gallon chloride of zinc, two (2) ounces; morphine, one elghth a) of an ounce; caustic potash, four (4) ounces; rose-water, one (1) gallon; tincture of arnica, one (1) quart; citric acid, two (2) quarts; distilled Water, four (4) gallons. The compound is prepared by the thorough admixture of the above ingredients, which may be effected in any suitable manner, as by a vigorous shaking or stirring, and is ready for immediate use as soon as the parts are well mingled.
The medicine should be applied externally to the parts afl'ected by means of a sponge or cloth saturated with the same, or if to be applied internally the medicine should be charged into a syringe, and by this means vigorously injected so as to reach the parts diseased.
The preparation is a safe and harmless remedy when used as above indicated, and Will preserve its strength and medicinal qualities for a great length of time.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The medical compound, herein described, when compounded of the ingredients, and used in the manner, and for the uses and purposes herein set forth.
