Description
J. H. FABLING. GARBAGE "PAIL HOLDER. APPLICATION FILED AH. 13, 1910.
Patented June 4, 1912.
JOHN H. FARLING, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
' GARBAGE-PAIL 30mm.
Specification ot Letters I'atent. Application filed April 18, 1910. Serial No. 555,233.
Patented June 4, 1912.
' Toall whom it may concern.
e it known that I, JOHN H.- Fanmno, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, inthe county of Cook, State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garbage-Pail Holders;
and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to garbage pail holders and its principal object is to provide a novel form of device of this class in which the pail will be covered by a coverarranged to be operated by the pressure of a foot on a pedal, the pail furthermore being held in an elevated position to render it easy of access and to prevent dogs and other animals getting at its-contents.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in general of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated inthe accompanying drawings,
and specifically set forth in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and Figure 1 is a side elevation of a garbage pail holder constructed in accordance with this invention.- Fig. 2 is a front view thereof. Fig. 3 is a top plan view thereof.
Secured to a suitable back board 10 is a bracket 11 whereon is carried a plate 12 provided with peripheral upturned lugs 13. This plate serves as the support for a garbage can here indicated in dotted lines as at 14. Spaced above the plate 10 is a bracket 15 provided with a pear of spaced ears 16 between which is pivoted a bar 17 having a cover 18 secured to the under side thereof. Fixed in spaced relation on the board are guides 19 wherein slides a rod'20 having its upper end forked and embracing the inner end of the bar 17 This fork is indicated at 21 and is connected to said bar 'by means of a suitable pin 22. Fixed upon the lower end of the rod 20 is an arm 23 which extends well out toward the front of the plate 12 and is there provided with a treadle 24.
In the operation of this devicethe can'is placed upon the plate 12 and when in this position the cover 18 will close the upper end of said can. When it is desired to put garbage in the can the foot is placed upon the treadle 24 and the treadle pushed down. This causes the bar 20 to'slide in the guides 19 with the result that the outer endof the bar 17 is raised, carrying with it the cover 18 as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 1. The garbage may then be placed in the can and upon removal of the foot the cover will drop. It will be obvious that in order to remove the can the cover should be lifted in the same manner as when depositing the garbage.
There has thus been provided a simple and eflicient device of the kind described and for the purpose specified.
It is obvious that minor changes may be made in the form and construction of this invention without departing from the material principles thereof. It is not therefore desired to confine the invention to the exact form herein shown and described, but it is wished to include all such as roperly come within the scope of the appen ed claim.
Havin thus described the invention, what is claime as new, is
The combination with a support, of a bracket, a plate'secured to the support and to the bracket and provided with peripheral upturned lugs, a second bracket secured to the support above the plate and provided with a pair of spaced ears, an arm extending forwardly over the plate and having its inner end disposed within the ears of the last mentioned bracket, a pivot-pin connecting said inner end of the arm and the ears of the ets and fixedly secured to the support, a rod "slidably mounted within said guides and having its upper end forked and disposed between the inner end ofthe arm and the ears of thefirstmentioned bracket, a pivotpin connecting the said forked end of the rod and the inner end of the bar, a bar extending outwardly beneath the plate and having its inner end rigidly secured to the 5 rod, said bar being disposed in the vertical plane of the first mentioned bar,' and a treadle'fixed to the outer end of said bar.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature, 1n presence of two witnesses. 7
