To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY W. GoNIA, a citizen of the United States, residing at Berwind, in the county of McDowell and State of West. Virginia,'have invented certain new'and useful Improvements in Trolley-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in suspension devices for wires, and particularly to those known as trolley hangers adapted especially for use in mines where it is necessary to provide a special support owing to the disposition of the same in rock,
coal or similar hard material of the ceiling' of said mine.
The advantages and objects of the invention will be more clearly understood when it is mentioned that it is customary to drill a hole in the n ceiling in which the trolley hanger is in. =rte and on accountof the na ture of the material of the ceiling the difliculty of supporting the hanger so that it will not become loose in use'and yet be capable of removal when desired, has been very great. The main object of my invention, therefore, has been to provide a hanger which will beefl'ectually insulated from the conductor by an insulating member, the attachment of which member to the hanger supporting member will operate topositively engage the supporting member with the mine ceil- Another objectin view is to provide a construction which will be simple and so arranged that the arts subject to breakage may be easily an quickly replaced without.

With the above and other objects in view, this inventionconsists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts all as hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein: Y I

Throughout the following detail descrip tion, and on the several figures of the drawings, similar parts are referred to by like reference characters.

Referring to the drawings by numerals, 1 represents the mine ceiling which as heretofore mentioned generally comprises hard substances and the numeral 2 illustrates an opening drilled in the ceiling. Into the opening is adapted to be inserted the supporting member 3 for my trolley hanger which supporting member has mounted in a' transverse groove at its upper extremity a pair of opposing dogs 4, said dogs being disposed upon the common pivot in 5 assing through the supporting mem ber 3. Mounted upon the supporting member for longitudinal movement thereof is disposed a sleeve'fi which is provided at opposite sides with slots 7, said slots terminating at their lower extremities in beveled or cam surfaces 7' adapted to 006 crate with thedogs 4 for o eration thereo in amanner to be hereina ter more fully set forth.
The lower end of the supporting member 3 is threaded as indicated at 3', and upon this extremity is screwed the insulating member for the trolley hanger comprising the shell 8 of hell shape form having 'on its upper surface a boss 8' provided with a threaded opening 8-whereby the shell and its coiiperating parts may be connected with the supporting member3. Within the bell shaped shell 8 is disposed a removable insulating member 9 of suitable non-conducting material such as fiber or the like, and said member'9 is Jiormed with a central concave recess to accommodate the head of a bolt 10 which forms the support for the wire engaging member or clamp 11. The bolt 10 is secured in a position cooperating with the insulating member by means of the nut 12 having a central opening therethrough through which the bolt-'10 passes and said nut at its upper peripheral portion is threaded for connecting the same to the internally threaded portion of the shell 8. In actual use the operation of the invention will be clear from the drawin though it may be stated that when the opening 2 has been provided in the ceiling of the mine, the hanger support 3 with its dogs 4 in retracted position and with the sleeve 6 movable thereon is inserted in said opening, which may be of the exact size of the exterior of,

With my con struetion, however, the insulating -material is so disposed as to be removable at all times shell 8 permitting the'bolt 10 to be withdrawn and access to-the main insulating member 9 had. The provision of an adjustable wire engaging clamp is also conducive to ready installation or disposition of the wire of the electric conductor 16 which may be loosely insertedv members 11 and 11' and when drawn tightly into proper tension, said-clamping members may be tightly clamped about said w1re.
Having thus described my invention, what Iclaim as new is:
1. A trolley hangercomprising a sleeve adapted to be inserted into an o ening, a supporting member disposed. within the sleeve and movableoutwardly of the opening and the sleeve, wall engaging means connected, to the inner s'u porting .member aforesaid, housed by said 5 eeve and movable through-said sleeve in upward opposite directions -upon movement of. the supporting member in the outward direction aforesaid, and means connected to the supporting member for causing said outward movement. 2.
