UNITED STATES OFFICE.
HENRY C. FULTON, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO WASHABLE SHOE COMPANY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION OF ILLINOIS.
WASI-IABLE SLIPPER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 2, 1912.
Patented July 8, 1913.
Serial No. 688,068.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, I'IENRY G. FULTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in WVashable Slippers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full. clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to washable slippers, and has for its object to provide a foot covering of this nature which will be simple in construction, comparatively inexpensive to manufacture and yet one which may be washed at any time, and the parts readily re-assembled.
To these ends the invention consists in the novel details of construction and combinations of parts more fully hereinafter disclosed, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification in which like numerals designate like parts in all the views :-Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of a slipper or other foot covering made in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of the parts shown in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a top plan view of a detachable inner sole adapted to be inserted in the slipper, and removed therefrom; Fi 4 is a bottom plan view of the parts shown in Fig. 3; and Fig. 5 is an enlarged longitudinal sectional View of the detachable inner sole removed from the slipper.
1 indicates the upper of a slipper made in accordance with my invention, composed of a Wash able fabric, 2 the rear portion of said slipper, and 3 a washable stiffening material, such as canvas, inserted in the counters.
4 represents a corded or beaded member, which preferably extends entirely around the interior of the slipper, and serves to hold the inner sole 5 in place, when slipped beneath said member 1 and between the same and the extreme bottom or outer sole (3 of the said slipper. The corded member 4t and outer sole 6 are likewise made of a washable fabric, as indicated.
The removable inner sole 5 is preferably composed of an upper wall 7 and a lower wall 8 providing a pocket between the same, and having an opening 9 through which a leather sole, or other stit'lening member 10 may be inserted. The walls 7 and S are also made of a washable fabric, and the said stiffening member 10 may be withdrawn at any time, and the said walls 7 and S washed, dried and the member 10 reinserted, when desired. The said removable inner sole 5 with the stiit'ening member 10 therein is readily inserted as a whole in the slipper and located beneath the corded member 4, as is indicated in Figs. 1 and 2, and it is as readily withdrawn from the slipper for washing purposes, when desired. The said inner sole 5 is also adapted to be used in ordinary foot coverings very much as cork soles and similar devices are now used. Another use for this detachable sole 5 is found in bathing stockings. In such case, the said soles may be simply slipped inside of the stockings and serve to protect the foot from gravel, stones and sharp shells while bathing. I, therefore, do not wish to limit the use of the inner sole to washable slippers, although the same is especially adapted for such slippers.
It is obvious that those skilled in the art may vary the details of construction as well as the arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of my invention, and therefore I do not wish to be limited. to the above disclosure except as may be required by the claims.
\Vhat I claim is:-
1. The combination with a in shable fabric foot covering having an internal bead secured thereto providing a restricted space; of a sole removably located within said space and positioned by said bead, substantially as described.
2. In a foot covering the combination of an upper and an outer sole portion of washable material a bead secured within the foot covering at the juncture of said upper and sole portions forming a restricted space; and
an inner sole of Washable material removably hold in place a Washable insole, subably located Within said space, substantially stantially as described. 7 10 as described. a In testimony whereof, I afiiX my signature,
3. A foot covering comprising an upper in presence of two Witnesses. and an'outer solei'portion of Washable mate- HENRY O. FULTON. rial provided ith a bead at the juncture of Witnesses: said upper and sole portions of such dimen- W. S. SAL sions as to form a space adapted to remov- J. M. LUOORE.
