UNITED STA ES FPATENT OFFICE;
FLORENCE WADDINGTON, OF-BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
TOY-FIGURE BLANK.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Mar. 25, 1913.
Original application filed February 26, 1912, Serial No. 679,942. Divided and this application filed June 27, 1912. Serial No. 706,301.
- TON, residing in the city of Baltimore and State of Maryland, have invented certain new Improvements in Toy-Figure Blanks, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention is an improvement in dolls or toy figure sheets or blanks, printed or otherwise characterized with the desired figure or figures, gummed for a certain distance andmade ready so that the purchaser need only moisten 'thegummed parts,
fold the blank over midway to bring the designs in register, cut out the figure and bend up the foot or pedal portions to complete the figure,
The present application is a divisional part of my application filed February 26th, 1912, Serial #679,942.
More subordinately the present invention includes those novel details of construction, design and arrangement of parts, all of which will be first fully described and then be specifically pointed out in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which 1 Figure 1 is a face view of the blank which constitutes my present invention. 'Fig. 2
shows the first step in making thefinal In the following description, I refer particularly to the use of stiff paper, cardboard and the like, from, which the cut out figure is produced, and I also refer to the figures as dolls and toy figures, but I desire itunderstood the figures might be in the nature of advertising elements, or other educational devices. In the commercial presentation of my invention the same is marketed in'the nature of sheets of stiff paper, cardboard or the like, for example, in the form shown on Fig. 1. On the sheet l is printed the front and back representation of the figure, doll, animal or other object, and these are so positioned that when the sheet 1 is folded upon itself on the central line 10, the front and back portions 2 and 3 register. l
In printing't-he figure, either a doll or other object, .the representation in every instance includes the pedal portions 4-4, which for both the back and front representations begin at a common predetermined point, indicated by the line 5' and relatively the said pedal portions are of, different length, that for the front representation be ing much longer than that for the back representation, thelfront forming, what is hereinafter termed the foot portion and the other the heel portion.
It will be noticed that on one of the side folders of the sheet, is represented a sole piece and this appears on a part of the said.-

sheet so itcan-be easily cut out; After the sheet 1 is folded .pasted the figureis cut out following the outline, and after it is thus cut out the ex tension of the detached front member" is bent forwardly to form the foot and the free extension on the back'meinber is bent back to form the heel portion, after which the solepiece is cut out and gummed to adhere to the bottom of the foot and heel portions mentioned.
Trees orother inanimate objects may be presented as well as living objects as will be clear to those skilled in the art.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanyingdrawing the construction and use of my invention willbe apparent.
What I claim. is
1. As a new article of manufacture, an uncut blank for toy figures consistin of a stiff sheet of paper or like material oldvable midway upon itself to form front and back members, said members having respectively the front and back of the tie sign for the figure thereon, the sheet being gum-coated on the blank back side to a place near the-lower end thereof, the front and back designs including leg portions that extend below the gummed portions of the adhering members, the lower extremities of the leg portions being bendable to form supporting feet substantially as specified.
2. As a new article ofmanufacture, an uncut blank for toy figures consisting of a stiff sheet of paper or like material foldable midway upon itself to form front and back members, one half of one face of said blank having the front of the design for the figure formed thereon, the otherhalf of the said face of said blank having the back of the design for the figure formed thereon, the front and back designs including leg portions, the lower extremities of which are bendable to form supporting feet after the figure has been cut out, the back of said blank being gum-coated to a place near the lower end thereof, and sole pieces desig-,
nated on said blank at the ungummed portion'. of the same and adapted to be cut out and secured to the bendable foot portions of the figure.
3. As a new article of manufacture, an uncut blank for toy figures consisting of a stiff sheet of paper or like material foldable over upon itself to form front and back members, at least one of said members having the design for the figure thereon, the sheet being gum-coated on the blank back side, whereby when said blank is folded over upon itself, the front and back members may be gummed together before the figure is cut out thereby enabling both the back and front of the figure to be cut out by one oper ation, the design of the figure including leg portions, the lower extremities of which'are bendable to form supporting feet substantially as specified.
