ENVELOP.
Application filed June 3, 1912.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MILAN S. MnnovIToH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gaston, in the county of Nevada and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Envelops, of which the following is a specification, ref erence being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in cnvelops, the object of the invention being to provide envelops which cannot be opened without detection.
Another objectof the invention is to provide a device of this character which will possess advantages in points of efficiency and durability, is inexpensive to manufacture and at the same time is simple in construction and operation.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel features of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, pointed out in the claim, and shown in the accompanying drawings in which,
Figure 1 is a rear elevation of an envelop constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 22 of Fig. 1, showing the envelop in a closed position. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a plan view of the blank from which my improved envelop is constructed.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 indicates the blank of the envelop which comprises a face portion 2 having the end flaps 3 and i. the sealing flat 5 and the bottom flap 6. The end flaps 3 and 4 are tapered toward their ends, and the extreme end of the flap 3 is bent inwardly upon itself as shown at 7 and adapted to engage with the outwardly bent end 8 of the flap 4. The ends of the flaps 3 and 4 are adapted to interlock and are held securely together by means of any adhesive material applied thereto. The bottom flap 6 is provided with an outwardly extending tongue 9 which is bent inwardly and having its end passed outwardly through the slot 10 formed in the flap 6 adjacent the base of the tongue, the end of the tongue projecting through the slot on to the outer side of the flap. The outcr side of the tongue 9 is provided with adhesive material so that when the same is bent inwardly and arranged in the Specification of Letters Patent.

The flap 5 is provided with an outwardly extending tongue 11 which is adapted to be bent inwardly and, when the envelop is sealed is inserted so that it will be disposed between the end of the flap 6 and the tongue 9. The tongue 11 is provided with adhesive material so that when the same is arranged in the slot 10 it will adhere to the flap 6 and prevent the removal of the tongue 11. The outer edge of the flap 5 is also provided with adhesive material in the same manner as the envelops in use at the present time.
In folding the blank to form an envelop, the end flap 4 is first folded inwardly, then the flap 3 is folded inwardly and the oppositely bent ends of the two flaps are interlocked and held securely together by any suitable adhesive material. The tongue 9 is then inserted through the slot 10 and the flap 6 is then secured to the flaps 3 and 4 as hereinbefore described. In sealing the envelop the tongue 11, which is provided with adhesive material, is inserted into the slot 10 and disposed between the tongue 9 and the flap 6. Thus it will. be seen that it will be impossible to open the envelop in any way withoutdetection.
It will be noted that the upper portion of the bottom flap 6 forms with the adjoining portion of the inwardly turned tongue 9, a downwardly opening pocket into which the tongue 11 of the sealing flap 5 is adapted to be inserted upwardly,
From the above description taken in connection with the drawings it will be readily apparent that I have provided a simple and durable envelop which can be quickly and easily sealed and cannot be opened without detection.
While I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention it will be obvious that various changes in the details of construction and in the proportions may be resorted to for successfully carrying my invention into practice without sacrificing any of the novel features or departing from the scope thereof.
What I claim is As a new article of manufacture, the herein described safety envelop, comprising a face portion, end flaps, a bottom flap and a sealing flap all connected to the face portion, the end flaps being folded one upon the other and upon the face portion and the bottom flap being folded upon the overlapped end portions, said bottom flap being formed with a tongue and With a transversely extending slot close to the tongue, the inner face of said bottom flap around said slot being coated With an adhesive and the tongue being extended downwardly along the inner side of the bottom flap and with its extremity passed downwardly through said slot, the bottom flap being adhesively connected to the end flaps, the upper portion of the bottom flap and the adjoining surface 15 said last named tongue being coated With an 20 adhesive substance, as and for the purpose set forth.
