l 3e it known that I, ROBERT J. Lone, a citizen of the United States, residing at vFullerton, in the parish of Vernon and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Faucets; and I do hereby declare the following to'be a full, clear, and exactdescription of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in faucets or the like and an obj ectof this inventionis to provide devices of this characterwith means for automati cally closing the valve and locking the same when not in use; I
Another object of this invention is to provide means foroperating the valve which; will prevent unauthorized persons from tampering with the same during the temporary absence of the operator.
A further object of this invention is to improve and simplify devices of this character, rendering them comparatively cheap to manufacture, strong, durable and efiicient in use and which maybe readily operated'.
Withthese and otherv objects in View, this invention consists of a novel construction,

I nected to an operating handle 12 by means of a link 13. This operating handle is provided with an elongated recess 14 which is adapted to receive the endof tl1;8; IOd.-7'. Dlagonally extending slots 15 are formedin each side of the handle '12 which are adapted to receive the lugs 16'formed on the end of the rod 7. A lug 17 extends from the enlarged portion 9 of the casingvand is adapted to extend through an elongated slot '18 formed in the handle 12 and when it is desired to lock the handle 12 an ordinary pad lock 19 may be inserted through the aperture formed in said lug, which will prevent any movement of the handle '12.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be seen that I have constructed a device which will perform all-of the necessary requirements and it is to-be understood that other minor details of construe the scope of the appended claims. I
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: y
1. In combination with a faucet comprising a casing having inlet and outlet ports, a longitudinal sliding valve for closing said ports, a stem'extending from said valve and an enlarged portion formed on the end of said casing, a nut mounted in said enlarged portion, said stem adapted to slide through said nut, a coil spring mounted between said .valve and said vnut for normally holding said valve in a 'closed position, a big extending from said enlarged pdrtion, a lever, a link connecting said lever with said lug, said lever havin an elongated slot formed therein to receiyl the end of the said stem, lugs formed o n'geach side of said stem and adapted to slide in diagonally extending slots formed oneach side of said lever, an apertured lug extending from said enlarged *portion and extending into a second elongated recess formed in said handle and a tion may beresorted to. that come within lock adapted to be inserted in theaperture/ valve and-extending fronrthe front end of sand tzu1cet,the sald-lever having a verticztl] y extending elongated slotformed therevtn to receive the end of sznd stem, lugs formed on each side of said stem and adapted to slide in diagonally extending ots formed on each side of said handle and lslot formed in said handle and a pad lock 1 adapted to be inserted 111 1111 opening formed in said lug for holding the sand vlever 1n :1
