Abstract

Pulp thickener, comprises at least hollow annular filter disc which collectsa fibres on its sidewalls as it rotates partially submerged in pulp suspension supplied (z) to a vat (1) having an outlet (3) for thickened suspension. The filter disc is mounted upon a rotary hollow shaft having multiple holes each communicating with a respective filtrate chamber (II) within the rotor, adjacent chambers (II) having a radial partition (8) between them. A pool of filtrate is maintained in the hollow shaft, from which filtrate is discharged pref. over a weir wall. Specifically spray nozzles (17) strip filter cake from the disc side walls into the vat (I).
