Abstract

The invention relates to the field of perfumes. Mixtures of cis- and trans-2 [2-methyl-prop-1-ene-1-yl]-4-methyl-tetrahydopyran containing preponderant amounts of the isomer cis are obtained by a process consisting of hydrogenation of a methylene cyclic ether of the formula (FORMULA) in the presence of a catalyzer made of Raney nickel or palladium to produce a mixture of cis and trans-2-[2-methyl-prop-1-ene-1-yl]-4-methyl-tetrahydropyran, the said mixture being then enriched in isomer cis by treatment with an acid agent.
