Abstract
1369975 Moulding bearings DOW CORNING GmbH 1 Feb 1973 [4 Feb 1972] 4995/73 Heading B5A [Also in Division C3] Moulded articles are prepared by first mixing a powdered epoxy resin (10-25 parts by wt.), which is solid at 20‹ C., a latent curing agent and powdered inorganic material (90-75 parts by wt.), e.g. a solid lubricant such as MoS 2 , the sum of these being 100 parts by weight. The mixture is then homogenized at a temperature above the softening point of the resin, cooled and comminuted so that more than 80% by wt. has a particle size <0À315 mm. The resultant powder is then mixed with 2-30% by wt. (of the total composition) of powdered polytetrafluoroethylene (P.T.F.E.). The mixture is then moulded at room temperature and 15-50 kg./ sq. mm. in a predetermined relationship to the amount of P.T.F.E. used, the pressure being greater the lesser the amount of P.T.F.E. present. The moulded part is then cured at an elevated temperature up to 260‹C. The P.T.F.E. may be a wax with molecular weight 35,000-100,000. The moulded products are useful as self-lubricating bearings.
