Abstract
1343767 Measuring liquid flow EMI Ltd 19 April 1971 [26 Feb 1971] 9317/70 Heading G4H [Also in Division G1] A liquid flow meter of the turbine type includes a fluid discriminator device which senses gas in the liquid, e.g. pockets of air in the liquid or in the case of energization of a previously unenergized pipe-line the gas trapped in the line and which flows in front of the liquid. The discriminator includes two probes 6, 7 connected across secondary winding 5 of A.C. energized transformer T. The current flowing through the primary winding 1 of transformer T dependent upon whether gas or liquid flows past the probes is applied to operational amplifier 9 which switches between two states. The output voltage of amplifier 9 either gates counting pulses into the flowmeter counter only when a liquid flows past the probes 6, 7 or switches on the counter only when liquid flows past the probes.
