Abstract

1,089,759. Sewing machines. TRUBENISED (GREAT BRITAIN) Ltd. Aug. 23, 1966 [Aug. 23, 1965], No. 36143/65. Heading DIG. [Also in Division F2] A sewing machine workholder drive comprises a driven roller bearing against a template, a driven gear pinion coaxial with the roller, a gear member mounted adjacent an internal corner of the template for engagement by the pinion when the roller enters the corner and a lost motion connection to ensure that the roller will dwell in the corner until the gear member becomes effective to act as an abutment against which the pinion can work to drive the roller out of the corner. As shown, a magnetised roller 2, co-operating with a template 1, is rigid with a driven shaft 3 and a gear pinion 4. A gear pinion 6, situated at an internal corner of the template to mesh with pinion 4, is journalled on a fixed pin 11. A pin 12 depends from the head of pin 11 into an arcuate slot (13) formed in pinion 6. A helical spring biases pinion 6 counterclockwise to engage one end of slot (13) with pin 12. When pinion 4 meshes with pinion 6, forward movement of shaft 3 ceases while pinion 6 is rotated clockwise until the other end of slot (13) engages pin 12. Pinion 4 then acts on stationary pinion 6 to drive roller 2 out of the corner. The dwell of roller 2 in the corner enables at least one stitch to be inserted thereat.
