Abstract

The method involves performing initiation or D-initiation of regeneration reaction, and performing smothering step for initiation or D-initiation of the regeneration reaction, where the initiation step and the smothering step are performed alternatively. A mass of polluting particles inside a particulate regeneration filter (4) is detected, where the mass of the particles exceeds a value of predetermined critical mass. Temperature upstream of the filter exceeds value of predetermined critical temperature. An independent claim is also included for a control device.
