  • thank you 👀 I wanted these flowers to be ones Eleanor associates with her mother… you might notice the same ones at the start of the book (before this) and the end of the last chapter…

Illustration of three silhouetted characters looking out over a detailed rural English historical landscape, a village and small church with houses, market and fields. Text reads 'I shall never fall in love, a queer regency rom-com(ic)'ALT

    Out today

    IT’S… UK RELEASE DAY!

About 5 years since first starting the research and pitch, my “I didn’t expect mainstream publishers to accept this, let alone compete over it” trans historical romance is out in the UK.

It’s not an easy time for authors - or to be making trans books that are also suitable for teen readers - and I massively appreciate every person who’s boosted posts, supported, replied or told their library to get one, you’re the best.

More info, pics, and links to get the US version / international here

    - historical figure Dido Belle
    - and cool quiet girls everywhere. ily

Out in less than a week!! Find out more about the book here

  • Event graphic for lighthouse books reads: Sunday 13th October 6pm, Hari Conner x Lex Croucher virtual launchALT

In huge news for disabled me, I’ve figured out…

    an accessible virtual book launch!!!!!

come hang out on my sofa next Sunday through the magic of the internet, with some actual dream hosts.

(If you’re broke you can attend free, but it’s also a bookshop that does genuinely great work in activism and across the community that’s worth supporting!)

event graphic reads: submit Qs about the book or whatever you like, email books @lighthousebookshop.com with the subject 'question for hari' or ask in the comments before October 8thALT

also if you have any questions (about the book itself, what inspired it, graphic novels, being an author or anything really) I thought this would be a really nice chance to chat and answer - either in the event, or just in posts afterwards if there are a few. Just put them in replies here this week (or asks!)

genuinely very happy about this review, but doing a webcomic has poisoned my mind because my first thought was ‘this one’s not slow-burn, it’s less than 300 pages’

sorry if this has been asked before but where can i preorder i shall never fall in love if im in the EU?

  • Hello! I generally say check where you normally get books & support bookshops if you can - but I know that’s easier in some countries than others. I’d suggest bookshops in the UK that ship to the EU like:

    • Blackwells - price includes shipping, and they sort out taxes for you (visible at checkout)
    • If that’s not an option, it’s on Waterstones, Amazon UK and some other places (eg .de and .pl).
    • If you’re in Italy or Spain, translations will be out soon, which should be easier to get from bookshops there!

something I really enjoy doing for historical books is looking up real documents from the time, and drawing versions of them among the character’s belongings

I Shall Never Fall in Love - meet the characters (1/3): George

One of my first big ideas for this book was classic historical romance but with a nonbinary/ transmasc romantic lead - inspired by real queer history, but still a comfort read. Think:

    • Historical romance repressed emotion and longing / but including gender longing
    • Gentlemanly manners vs. butch chivalry
    • Difference that puts them at odds with high society, and leads them to question it
