What is the new behavior?
When running Vitest inside the Vitest VSCode extension, we defer initial compilation until we need to transform a file, then full initial compilation is done. This allows the extension to queue projects and provide more immediate feedback, providing a better developer experience.
The initial compilation is still done upfront for applications and running Vitest directly.
